Somebody got a call. Terrific show. Stood with Sweet Caroline right up front while she got her Wilco cherry popped. It was a beautiful thing. The band was tight. Over the years it's been nice to see Jeff develop so much cowboy ease on stage. The Nudies are sparkly delicious. Andrew Bird sounded great. One way or another I have seen him more this last year than any other performer. Stopped in Petersburg on the way home to see if we could catch the Perseids from atop the mountain, but just a bit too cloudy. In any case, it turned out to be a beautiful night. Myth of Fingerprints. There was tremendous criticism of Simon when this album came out, along the same lines as the Los Lobos story. Most of what got publicized was about the musical exploitation of Ladysmith Black Mombasa. I had never heard the story that Berlin tells. That's pretty fucked up, though it has the ring of truth. Simon's arrogance after the fact especially. There was a period of time in the early to mid eighties where many of those higher echelon music dudes floundered artistically because of coke.
