    Wilco DVD

For NYC area people, one screening that doesn't appear to be on the list yet is apparently happening on April 13 at 7 p.m. at the IFC Center (323 6th Avenue, near W. 4th). It's being billed as Movie Night with Fred Armisen and will be followed by a "discussion of the film with Armisen and directors/producers Brendan Canty and Christoph Green," according to the e-mail I got. You should be able to buy advance tickets here.
  2. Well, he did need printed lyrics for those two. But they sounded great, imho. Hard to believe they were written when he was 18 or 19! For the record, Train was also requested but he flung the lyric sheet to the ground and said he wasn't going to do that one. I also wanted to say that I loved the contributions we got from three of our fellow showgoers -- Hamilton Sims, Dave Mirabella and Martin Rivas -- who are all also really talented musicians that you should check out. Hamilton's band is called Little Beirut, Dave's is called The Rationales and Martin plays under his own name but could
  3. Jeff said the record hasn't been mastered yet. I guess I probably should have taken note of the sequence in which we heard the tracks, but I didn't because I was too preoccupied with listening. That said, here's a very cursory stab at the tracks in the order we heard them (which I'm pretty sure Jeff said was going to be the sequence): 1) Wilco the Song 2) Bull Black Nova 3) One Wing 4) You and I 5) Solitaire 6) You Never Know 7) I'll Fight (a/k/a Conscript) 8) Deeper Down 9) My Country Disappeared 10) Sunny Feeling 11) Everlasting Everything Anyway, those are definitely the songs we hear

  5. So, any reports from the Pronto gig at Martyr's?
  6. Hey Chris, that's good news. It was great to meet you the other night as well, if only briefly. Sucks that the "rafter recordings" got messed up by the cell phone interference. I would have been really interested to hear how those came out. And considering all the work that you guys put in getting stuff set up, I feel badly that it didn't work out. I used to leave my cell phone on (vibrate or silent mode, obviously) during shows, but since I started realizing how they can wreak havoc with recordings and audio stuff in general, I shut it off entirely now. I'm all for technology, but sometimes
  7. well, i mean if he's trying to take a bike ride or whatever, you would hope that people would just sort of let him be and leave him alone. i understand that people want pictures and all that, but there is probably a more appropriate time and place. just sayin'.
  8. I will say that I was a little bit surprised that at least one of the songs Jeff and Pete played together wasn't a Woody Guthrie song. Not that I didn't enjoy what they played, especially Midnight Special. And not even saying it had to be a Mermaid Avenue song, necessarily. But given the Seeger/Guthrie connection, this was the closest Jeff will probably ever come to playing with Woody so I guess it's just a little surprising to me that they didn't go that route. Hell, it could have been "This Land Is Your Land" or something and it would probably have been great. Perhaps, in the end, Jeff sim
  9. I haven't really figured out what to say about tonight's show yet, so I'm just going to post the setlist for now. I'm sure others will chime in. I think more than a few VCers were in attendance. Remember the Mountain Bed New Madrid Everlasting Everything Solitaire Jesus, etc. Hummingbird The Ruling Class Bob Dylan's 49th Beard Passenger Side Wilco the Song Heavy Metal Drummer Via Chicago (w/harmonica) Airline to Heaven I'm The Man Who Loves You ------------------------------- Midnight Special (w/Pete Seeger on banjo and Tao Rodriguez-Seeger, grandson of Pete, on guitar and vocals) [tradition
  10. Cool, thanks for posting that! Much, much better than some of the other interviews I've seen. Out of curiosity, was that via e-mail or over the phone? Enjoy the Martyr's show tonight!
  11. Yeah, it was good to see you as well. I'm glad you said hi; I'm bad with faces (pretty good with names), so sometimes I just don't connect the dots as fast as I should. Hope you had a safe ride back and enjoyed the show!
  12. I think tonight in Northampton Jeff went on almost exactly at nine and was done a little before 11. Maybe 10:45. I'd say he does around an hour and 45 minutes. Not sure how it's going to be tomorrow night in Beacon, though. I know it's an earlier start, but I'm not sure if Pete Seeger, et al., will cut into Jeff's set time at all.
  13. Oh, and since I didn't post Pronto's setlist last night, here's what they played in NoHo: When I'm on the Rocks Say It All Night Listen Lover Unexpected Vex Biz Dev (a new song) Good Friends Have Gone All Is Golden Too bad we didn't get some more Jeff-Mike duets but I have a feeling Pronto might have had to split even before Jeff's set was over because, after all, they're playing in Chicago tomorrow night.
  14. Definitely a different vibe than Burlington, which was to be expected with a seated show. Not that there weren't *a lot* of song requests from the crowd. But anytime you get to hear Dreamer In My Dreams, especially sans PA, counts as a good show as far as I'm concerned... Spiders (Kidsmoke) I'm Always In Love (w/harmonica) Remember the Mountain Bed Bob Dylan's 49th Beard Jesus, etc. One By One Everlasting Everything Solitaire Someday, Some Morning, Sometime The Ruling Class Wait Up Muzzle of Bees In A Future Age Forget the Flowers California Stars -------------------------- A Shot in the
  15. The show was taped, have no fear. You maybe didn't see any mike stands because at least two tapers' mikes were suspended from above...
  16. Just remembering that Jeff gave a couple of Burlington shoutouts as well. He changed one of the "on a private beach in Michigan" lines in Spiders to something...in Burlington. And during Heavy Metal Drummer, he did the obligatory, "Playing Phish covers..." but then couldn't think of any other Burlington bands. I yelled out Death, which technically is a Detroit band but they live in Burlington now so I thought that was appropriate, and Jeff took that suggestion. Then he pointed out how the crowd couldn't really think of any other Burlington bands either, so he started making up names like Pro
  17. No prob. I'm impressed that you can tweet almost every song. I'm not deft enough on the ol' mobile. I thought it was a very, very fun show. Jeff seemed to be in a great mood; as someone near me put it, he was just "feisty" enough to deal with an at-times rowdy crowd and yet comfortable enough to indulge several impromptu requests (Forget the Flowers and We've Been Had, to name two). Great to see Mike come out and play a couple of songs as well, though Theologians was -- shall we say -- a bit loose? Incidentally, I think Pronto made at least a few converts with their all-too-brief 30-mi
  18. You got all the songs, I think, but a couple were out of order... Here you go: Via Chicago (w/harmonica) Remember The Mountain Bed Spiders (Kidsmoke) Everlasting Everything Solitaire The Ruling Class I Wanna Be Your Dog [The Stooges] Forget the Flowers Summer Teeth One By One Simple Twist of Fate [bob Dylan] Bob Dylan's 49th Beard Jesus, etc. Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) Heavy Metal Drummer ---------------------------- Airline to Heaven A Shot in the Arm Muzzle of Bees We've Been Had I'm The Man Who Loves You ----------------------------- Hummingbird [w/Mikael Jorgensen on keybo
  19. He pretty much sticks to "A.C. Newman" material, from my experience. Especially since he's promoting a new record. Usually he doesn't even do New Pornographers' stuff, though at the Brooklyn show last fall, he did do a solo acoustic version of "The Fake Headlines" as a second encore. But I think that was fairly unusual.
  20. God willing, I will be there. (I thought I told you that.) Anyway, I'm bummed about the time slot because I was hopin' for some Sweet Baby James.
  21. The High Road Touring site says Saturday, fwiw.
  22. Looks like Jazz Fest just announced their time slots. Not exactly a surprise, but it appears that Wilco is scheduled from 5:30-7 on the Gentilly stage (maybe the second-biggest stage?). They're playing at essentially the same time as, among others, James Taylor and Erykah Badu. Full schedule here.
  23. I didn't realize Nicole was touring with him either, but that's cool that you guys got to see her! She definitely adds another element to the Get Guilty stuff, even if I'm not as big a fan of it as some of Carl's other work. I saw the first show for this record way back in November in Brooklyn and Nicole was there too. Hopefully she'll be there this weekend when they're back here.
  24. Probably drink it, since beers cost virtually nothing there.
