Was "You & I" some kind of hit in Scandinavia, Holland, etc.? Or is Feist really big over there? Interesting that they've played it at every recent show, but not in America.

Dr. Dog - Be The Void (February 7, 2012)
indy81 replied to RainDogToo's topic in Someone Else's Song
I like these guys a lot, but some of these songs cross the line that separates "catchy" and "annoying." -
I'm sad to see the slower new songs ("Rising Red Lung", "Black Moon", "Capitol City") get ignored in recent shows. It always seems like, as the tour goes on, they start pandering a bit and the shows become more "rawk." Still opening with "One Sunday Morning", though, which is gutsy.

Pat had a giant beard on Saturday night. He must have shaved to be presentable on TV!

I prefer excellent audience recordings (like this one) to soundboards anyday. Thanks again to darktrain for a great recording of a classic show. I will be listening to it for years to come.

To be fair, wasn't Jeff like 35 years old when Coomer and Bennett were fired? (Sorry for the off-topic. I'm currently reading Background to Danger by Eric Ambler.)

I usually don't comment on setlists, but wow! "Less than You Think", "You & I", "Kamera", "Radio Cure", "Box Full of Letters", "New Madrid", "Someday Soon"...I hope these make their way into the "regular" set. Things have been a bit stagnant.

I think the shorter sets in the UK are due to the curfews.
-
...and it looks like most of the presales have sold out. Very, very frustrating. EDIT: I got in at 10:23 and everything was sold out. Terrific.
-
I'm just chillin' in the waiting room because it seems to automatically refresh every 30 seconds or so. I'm just dreading that the inevitable "sold out" list will pop up while I wait. 10:15 and I still haven't gotten in. I've had good luck with presales before but have never had to deal with this sort of thing, except from Ticketmaster.
-
This is torture.

Sounds like a fun show, but that's a pretty short set. I'll never understand why they don't just start curfew shows earlier. Isn't that something that should be figured out ahead of time, so they're not crossing songs off the setlist and playing 110 minute shows?

Hmm, I don't know. Based on interview comments and those preview videos, it seems like a bunch of the new songs will be in the alt-country vein, with lap steel, etc. I imagine the album will have a Being There -type eclecticism to it. Not that I would want them to shed the alt-country label entirely anyway! "I Might" is pretty great -- glad to see them returning to up-tempo rockers after all this time.

Sorry for the OT...it seems like you dislike the band but I'm curious if you've heard U2's last album. I thought there were several adventurous (for U2, anyway) songs on there. You can argue the album was no good, but you can't really say they weren't trying to do something different with songs like "Fez/Being Born", "Unknown Caller", etc. And to their credit, they played a huge chunk of the album live when I saw them a couple of years ago. But since the sales were relatively low, I'm sure they'll be back to the crowd-pleasing pop songs for the next album. Looking forward to hearing the

Wilco on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson May 10
indy81 replied to u2roolz's topic in Just A Fan
Since half the shows on CBS are about serial killers, I don't think song lyrics are much of an issue. Nice performance of "Deeper Down" -- I liked that Jeff's guitar was upfront in the mix. -
Listened to the show yesterday...wow. One of the best setlists ever. A great mix of stuff, and the Sunken Treasure-->Less Than You Think-->Laminated Cat is something I would throw together if I were making a fantasy setlist. I know this was something of a special show, but hopefully the band continues to take risks in the upcoming gigs.
-
Very nice recording, thanks a lot for taping this great show. Crazy that they would pull out three super-rare songs in one night. I don't think they've played the original arrangement of "Sunken Treasure" since the '08 residency. I hope this means it will get played more often -- I remember back when it used to alternate with "Via Chicago" and get played all the time. "Kicking Television" hasn't been played since '05! And when was the last time they played "Outtasite", "I Got You" and "Monday" at the same show? Nice to see that they can still surprise, even after the great "Evening with

I thought this was a joke post at first, but they keep coming, so... Dude, all the songs you want them to play (except "Kingpin" and "Misunderstood") are songs they literally play every single night. So you don't need to worry. Plus, they're playing 35+ songs a night, so there is plenty of room for rarities, even if you personally don't like them for whatever reason. Also, you really think that "Via Chicago", "California Stars", "Poor Places", and "At Least That's What You Said" are "not the band's best work"?
-
I can't believe people are still complaining about the setlists with these new longer shows. Yes, they're playing the old warhorses, but you're also getting 8-10 rarities where you were getting one or two before. They're playing 35-song sets -- of course they're going to play "Heavy Metal Drummer", "I'm the Man Who Loves You", "California Stars", etc. Is this a problem when they're also playing "When You Wake Up Feeling Old", "Laminated Cat", "Passenger Side", "Sky Blue Sky", "Wishful Thinking", etc. etc.?
-
Wow, I'm usually a setlist complainer but that looks great. All you East-coasters are in for a treat. The acoustic set is a great idea -- I thought their recent setlists were getting too "rocky" at the expense of their quieter stuff, so it's great to see them make room for "Sky Blue Sky", "Hesitating Beauty", etc. Part of me wishes they'd ditch the opening act from now on.

Jeff said it was the most commonly requested song from the website ("so at least 23 of you should be happy.") So tell your friends in Hamilton to hit the website and vote. The sixty-something wine-sipping couple behind me obviously didn't know the song, as they talked loudly through the entire thing (as they did for much of the show.) A solid show, but nothing transcendental (maybe I've seen them too many times.) But they're playing so well that even an average show is pretty terrific. They're definitely a well-oiled machine, in both a good and bad way. I was especially happy with "Cou

"Someone Else's Song" was performed without the PA, so I imagine there isn't a audible version of it on the soundboard.

I liked the episode a lot, but I like the awkward ones. I especially liked the nice touch when the waitress filled up the water glasses in the middle of the conversation. As far as Michael being completely unsympathetic, I disagree. I thought he had a completely legitimate reason for breaking up with Pam's mom. He just picked a bad time and place to tell her. He's like an impatient kid who was upset and needed to get something off his chest, regardless of anyone else's feelings. It seemed in-character for me, and it certainly didn't make me hate him. I could understand your point if

Saw Weezer on Letterman tonight...
indy81 replied to Sweet Papa Crimbo's topic in Someone Else's Song
Hate on the new album all you want, but those two Letterman performances were fantastic. I was skeptical about Cuomo ditching the guitar, but it really opens up the stage. Plus the horns sounded great. Too bad there are only a few really good tunes on the album. People separate the first two albums from the rest, but that always struck me as a false dichotomy. There are a bunch of fluffy popcorn songs on the first album, and there are a number of more serious "emo" songs on the later albums, so... -
And there you have it. I prefer to stand too, but you've gotta go with the flow. Basic rules of courtesy still apply at concerts. And since you were warned twice and refused to sit even after they threatened to toss you, I'm not sure you've got much to complain about. Was it worth missing 2/3 of the show just for the sake of refusing a reasonable request?
