cassius
Did you literally do the arithmetic on this? Fuck no. See also songs that mention "The Bar" Cassius
jdlee23
Fuck no. See also songs that mention "The Bar" Cassius Oi. No need to curse. So, if you did no arithmetic, why 86.75%? Actually, it's a pretty good number. Maybe I'll go with 66.67%, though. Sounds more reasonable for my tastes, and we take care of that infinitely repeating 2/3. Lammycat
I saw Phil & Friends Tuesday. They did THREE Ryan songs, thus pissing off a bunch of old hippies. Encored with My Sweet Carolina. Real good show. Were folks actually pissed off? Strikes me as odd as Phil & Friends have been covering Ryan tunes without Ryan in the band since at least December of this past year. Phil's obviously got great respect for Ryan as a song-writer, as well he should.

Jaymie
I wouldn't call Cold Roses or JCN mediocre - i think most people would agree that they are very good. 29 is admittedly the weaker of the three. In fact, i think Cold Roses is superior to Heartbreaker, but i suspect i am in the minority on that opinion. most bands/artists struggle to put out just one "very good" record in their whole career. if he released 9 songs every three years, people would complain that he is not prolific enough. so you can't win. You know what, actually, I've always thought "Love Is Hell pts.1 and 2" was classic. But I'm always sort of hesitent to admit that, but, you're very right, "Cold Roses" is exceptionally good. I just don't think it has the stark emotional weight that made "Heartbreaker" so essential.

I rate 'Cold Roses' above 'Heartbreaker'. In fact, I rate JCN on the same line as 'Heartbreaker'. There's some classic songs there, but there's just a few which make me skip to the next track, and I don't normally keep listening after 'Shakedown on 9th St'. 'Cold Roses' is one that I listen all the way through most of the time. There aren't songs that I skip every time, and altough I may skip them every now and then, I don't hate them. I always kinda thought that "Shakedown On 9th Street" fucked up the continuity of "Heartbreaker". It still sounds displaced and irelivent. I think even Ryan Jeffersion Starship Double Album Adams would agree that that particular cut was very disposeable... I don't know... I feel like "Heartbreaker" is Ryan's most (and I think only) critically lauded album.Shit, didn't pitchfork even give it like a 9.0?? And said logic agrees with my own perspective so...I don't know...Maybe everyone should post thier favorite Ryan Adams album and explain why to get the actual street census

imsjry
Back to the topic of the thread, here are some rants from the other day..... Here's Adams replies to the total bashing he was taking over there about the short show in Knoxville. KNOXVILLE TRUTH Author: Ryan 7/27/06 4:32:43 AM the reality is...every show has a curfew. fucking fact. I keep seeeing or hearing this childish bullshit and i will settle it for once and for all. The Venue or whatever venue we are playing, have employees. they have staff. we have a roadcrew and driving time and onyl so many hours to get our equpitment rig packed before these people go home. Also theaters have CURFEWS...they do. esp. seated venues. Knoxville had a strict 11-00 curfew. it was no smoking and 11 firm. we get charged money by the minute after the time we are to be off. because the bartenders and staff all have lives and familys and it takes time to close the venue up and get things set up for the next show. i left the stage AFTER 11. 5 minutres after. I respect house rules because i want to be able to play places again and not burn promoters and not fuck over house staff. I talked about this before but nobody listens. Whatevewr i had to say at the end of the show was just that. and of course something else. it has no effect on the gig, and you know, i am happy to play all fucking night. its why we ride all that way to play. thats what i want to do. play. not fucking talk about heartbreaker by the bus, not fucking listen to some drunk rant about god knows what, ive been there done that. i want to play. aside from tuning issues because the a.c. changed alot from soundcheck to gig, there was alot of focus and we opted for some other songs than the set list tunes because like all bands we adapt to the surroundings and our shit was screwey. so we did our thing and kept it rolling. and i am so sick off the whole "he talked too much, didnt talk enough shit" it means nothing, I am not on tour to be your friend, I am on tour to be in the cardubaks and sing and play guitar and get first place on galaga. thats it. so stop it with all this projecting drama on us in here. some of you people are so crazy. you dont know us. just listen to the music, its just some tunes. sheesh Re: KNOXVILLE TRUTH Author: Ryan 7/27/06 4:53:53 AM well. you know. i just want to play and have a kick ass time on stage with the lovelys up there and go and play some video games and have some quiet time. our best gigs happen when people are the most chill. you know, its weird because i am not a famous person but i have trouble just hanging round sometimes without people getting stirred up. i think its trhat whole entertainment tonight celebrity mag type b.s. culture spilling over to the rock world or something. i wouldnt dare bother another musician unless you know, i needed to borrow something. or they were hot. ha. seriously though, the bus is our ride man. its not THE STAGE PART 2. we gotta live outta that shit while we are rolling. people gotta have some respect. besides, i dont like talking about music when im not on stage. i just want to be left alone. and that shit was NOT FUCKING happening in Knoxville. nice folks but a bit hammered overall it seemed and i couldeent get food before we left and shake hands and babies too. and i needed to get set up before our drive. so thats that. its all cool. youd think we walked in that place and just vomited on stage and left after how they talked about it. def. not coming back to knoxville after this. couldnt care less. DEAR KNOXVILLE FANS Author: Ryan 7/27/06 5:27:27 AM OK NOW I AM PISSED. I READALL YOUR FUCKING COMPLAINTS. WE DID NOT CUT THE RFUCKING SET SHORT. THE CURFEW TIME THE CREW TOLD US WAS 11OCLOCK. YOUR LOCAL VENUE WANTED A 90MINUTE SET. IF YOU DIDNT LIKE THE SHOW, WHY WAS EVERYBODY HAVING SUCK A GOOD TIME CHEERING AND GETTING BOMBED AND CALLING OUT SONGS? FUCK OFF I DONT GIVE A FUCK. YOU THINK I WANTED TO PLAY ONLY 90 minutes. THAT I WOULD TRAVEL ALL THAT WAY TO HAVE A SHORT SHOW?????? WHATEVER. ITS OBVIOUS WHY BANDS STOP COMING THERE. CUFEW TIMES AND FUCKED UP STUDENTS WHO DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT PERSONAL SPACE MEANS. I PLAYED, THEY HOUSE HAD ITS RULES, WE LEFT. SO DONT WORRY. I WONT BOTHER NEXT TIME. SERIOUSLY. I WILL PLAY SOMEWHERE ELSE AND WILL SLEEP LIKE A FUCKING BABY AS WE ROLL PAST YA. ltr.
