i'm amazed at how underrated some off those Presence tunes are. i guess they're overshadowed by achilles last stand and nobody's fault but mine. but stuff like hots on for nowhere, for your life and royal orleans is great

also, dont underestimate robert's solo career. under the 80s production there are some very strong songs

"Far Post" being one of the best ... sadly that was only ever released on the "White Nights" soundtrack -- which I finally broke down and bought because I wanted that song so badly.

Why not get them all in order -

Why not just spring for the ten-disc box set that includes remasters of every album?

I just did that a few months ago, rather than purchasing all the remastered versions individually to replace my older ones.

i got my first introduction to led zepplin this weekend(not counting the songs that are played on the "classic" rock radio station in town), and i am really impressed. i mean they aren't really life-altering songs, but they are really great, and some of the guitar and bass parts are really clever from an analytical standpoint. either way, i'm impressed.

i just bought that 2 disc set of "early days" and "latter days".

anybody have any suggestions for full albums to pick up.

next on my list to get is some t.rex stuff.

Zeppelin rules! (I got detention once for writing that on a locker). All of their albums are awesome; my faves are II, III, Houses of the Holy, Physical Graffiti and Presence. You'll like T. Rex too. (Analogman will be SO proud of you!)

Tanks,Mende for mentioning this often-overlooked one..my personal favorite & the one I still listen to.

Due to a very cool cousin that was about 8 years older than me (and didn't mind a little kid tagging around) I was into those guys when I was a pup. While the other kids in our class were listening to the Archies or whatever I was jumping around with a tennis raquet pretending to be J. Page.Yes,I was a freak even then!

God,all of em are good. For a band sometimes labled as Heavy Metal they sure had alot of styles & textures.Such a shame they were victims of overkill.

Another reason to dig em:resisting the temptation to get another drummer & "re-form" as LZ....there's few things more commendable in RXR than having real integrity :thumbup A scarce commodity,if you ask me.

Oh, come on. Nobody actually likes Presence better than Houses. Jesus.

I do.

'Houses of the Holy' is my least favourite Zep album ('Coda' doesn't count). OK, so 'The Rain Song', 'No Quarter', 'The Song Remains the Same', 'Over the Hills and Far Away' and 'The Ocean' are all kick-ass songs, but the flow of the album is terrible and sounds more like a compilation than a studio album.

'Presence' is way underrated. Page is a god on this album.

Am I the only one who also thinks ITTOD gets nowhere enough love? Page's solo on 'I'm Gonna Crawl' is sublime, it's like you can hear the smack making his way through his veins as he plays it - top stuff.

FWIW, my order is;

III

IV

I

II

Presence

Physical Graffiti

ITTOD

Houses of the Holy

But I also agree that 'How the West Was Won' is a must-buy. Zeppelin live in 1972 is almost as good as they got - my preference is for the early Fillmore gigs from 1969, but the 1972 stuff is Zeppelin just before Plant's voice went out and the whole Zeppelin machine got too big. There are one-off things after this time that kick-ass, the Earls Court 'No Quarter' performances in 1975 were pretty awesome, as was June 1977, but this is when Zeppelin were their consistent best.

II is my favourite, followed closely by Physical Graffiti... The Remasters double disc is also a good place to start and you can pick that up quite cheaply now I think...

I remember my Dad playing II to me on casette when I was a kid... I remember it blowing my mind; those riffs, that voice, the drumming... that was it then, hooked!

The Song Remains the Same is good place to start.

:rock

cool, i'm a party pooper on the thread now :lol

something doesnt sit right with the 73 shows for me.

they seemed to sound much better in 1972 and 1975. maybe the 75 shows had boost in motivation with the new songs. :dontgetit

can anyone guide me to where i can find the soundtrack work jimmy page did for that kenneth anger film (i think it was lucifer rising?) i don't think it was released anywhere but i'm sure it's floating around the web somewhere...

I've seen it on dime a dozen and boot city.

As far as that goes, there are hundreds of live shows out there to get.

I like the live versions of the Houses of The Holy songs - that album has such a weird sound that I have always found it hard to get into. Houses of The Holy was the last record album I bought when record stores actually carried record albums - pre-cd days.
