bjorn_skurj
ARod gets blamed because of plays like this: Was that not the most bitch thing ever in baseball? And from a player of his talents.
MrRain422
That is why A-Rod gets called a bitch. And rightfully so. He is a bitch. But that play doesn't diminish his talents. Furthermore, I never, ever see that play cited by fans or media when talking about all the reasons that he is to blame for the Yankees' failure to win a championship in the last few years. It is only brought up by Red Sox fans (and the occassionally other random A-Rod hater).
austrya
Irish Hills? Cool. Haha, no, not quite. We live in Clinton.
MrRain422
Cool. For two years in college I lived with a guy from Clinton. His family owns a (the?) hotel there.
austrya
They have a great restaurant there. Sunday brunch is to die for! Yeah, there's not much happening here, so there's only the need for one hotel. I don't know that there's really a need for that, but it's a historical building so it will be there forever. MrRain422
I think he told me that the place filled up when there were races at M.I.S., but otherwise the business was mostly the restaurant.

MattZ
ARod gets blamed because of plays like this: I dont see that play as a reason to blame him for anything. He was going to be out, and he tried something, anything, to find a way to be safe. Was it a bush league play? Absolutely. Is it a reason not to like him? Absolutely. But what does "blame" have to do with it? Maybe I dont remember that play so well, but wasnt he just called out for interference? Wouldnt he have been out anyway?
parisisstale
It has nothing to do with my dislike for him. It's more like the .183 avg in his last 3 playoff series, striking out 25% of the time.

Yes, this is why Yankee fans hate him. Also, his penchant for hitting into double plays with runners on base and his uncanny knack for hitting home runs when the Yanks are far ahead or far behind. Whether he actually does this more or less than anyone else on the team, I have no idea. But it certainly seems that he does it more... And most Yankee fans hate him/blame him for it. Also -- getting bitch slapped by Varitek a couple of years ago didnt help.

MattZ
Awesome. For better or worse, NYers tend to favor and gravitate towards players that they perceive as tough or unwilling to take shit. ARod is forever tainted in their mind from that Varitek punch. Case in point: Mike Piazza actually took some shit from Mets fans for not charging the mound when Clemens threw the bat at him in the World Series back in 2000. Even though charging the mound would have surely resulted in him getting thrown out of the game, and even though Piazza single-handedly resurrected that team and got them there. NYers are a fickle bunch. Passionate, but fickle.
cryptique
NYers are a fickle bunch. Passionate, but fickle. You've got to remember that these are just simple farmers. These are people of the land. The common clay of the new West. You know... morons. Not sure why I was reminded of that.

explodo
That was fun tonight. This is turning out to be quite the series. Up and down and up and down and up. Hopefully it ends tomorrow.
MattZ
I feel like someone kicked me in the stomach. I suppose crazier things have happened than the Mets winning two in a row at Shea, but it doesnt look good. Good pitching always neutralizes good hitting, and the Cards' pitching has been outstanding. Even with two games at Shea, one has to think that the advantage and the momentum has swung to the Cards. It will take a minor miracle for the Mets to pull this out.
parisisstale
I think miracle is a little strong. Last night was a must win for the Cards, and they got it. Wouldn't be surprised if the Mets take these next two. Of course, I have gotten these playoffs completely wrong so far, so what do I know.
cryptique
If the Cards win the NLCS, I'm sure Fox will play up Jeff Weaver's history as a Tiger as much as possible. Juan Encarnacion's? Not so much.
tongue-tied lightning
come on Matt ! the Mets win tonight, then ya got a game 7 at home when anything can happen. Bob Murphy will send down a miracle for sure, Lindsey Nelson too.
c53x12
That was fun. Not sure if "bitch-slapped" is describing it quite right, but Varitek definitely gets the first blow. A-Rod comes right back though. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WGtTGXdTsg come on Matt ! the Mets win tonight, then ya got a game 7 at home when anything can happen.Tonight is definitely an "anything can happen" game -- the Cards have got Carpenter going, but everyone's going to be tired after flying at night into a time-zone change. MattZ
I think miracle is a little strong. Well, I think I called it a minor miracle. Only because the Cards have Carpenter going tonight against a rookie who hasnt lasted more than 4 1/3 innings this postseason and the Mets dont even know who will be starting game 7. It may be Darren Oliver or Oliver Perez. *shudder* But, here's the good news: they dont call em the Miracle Mets for nothing. Ya Gotta Believe!!
parisisstale
Carpenter also hasn't been very good lately. Mets all the way tonight. (I can't believe I'm actually rooting for the Mets right now. Where I come from, I could get stabbed for that.)
