Guest tandylacker
Hello, listened to Crane Wife in its entirety. Really only a few good songs, #1, #4, and #10. Especially the first song, really gets you excited for the CD, then blah. I know they have come out with a few other CDs though, which ones are better than this one?? Where should I start? LouieB
I am going to guess that if you didn't like this one (which has been getting rave reviews...) you won't like the others either that much. LouieB

explodo
Castaways and Cutouts is, in my opinion, leaps and bounds ahead of their other stuff but this new one is already in second so if you don't like it, you might never like them.
bobbob1313
Sounds like you already made up your mind about them. Pity.

Guest tandylacker
Sounds like you already made up your mind about them. Pity. Pity the soul who's lost faith in the decemberists. Haven't given up on them, LouieB says I should though. EDIT: I will download those 2 CDs. Thank you very much for the constructive responses star and street.
TheMaker
They've never been a great band, unless you like acoustic whining. The most obvious answer to this question is "With a side of Conor Oberst." Cheers!

bobbob1313
there's not much acoustic on this new one honestly Yeah, but since it's the maker, it doesn't really make a difference.

brokendowntele
I like them - different, literate, old-timey, arty, however, my lovely wife, who has good musiacl tastes can't stand Meloy's voice - the way he enunciates his R's especially. I haven't given a complete listen to Crane Wife yet, but do love Her Majesty and Castaways as well as Picaresque.

SarahC
with a big ol' smile and a couple of these thrown in for good measure: seriously, just give them time to grow on you, i did, and now i think they are great!
LouieB
Haven't given up on them, LouieB says I should though. What I said is, if you don't like the new one, chances are you won't particularly like the old ones either. LouieB
owl
I'm bothered most by those midgets on the cover.
Guest Rufer
the way he enunciates his R's especially. Finally someone else! I reasonably like everything else about the band but that one little, tiny feature makes them unlistenable for me.
jakobnicholas
Meloy's voice may be a road block for some. But other than that, what there is NOT to like about The Decemberists? I've been listening a week straight to their newest and love it. I think it may well be their best. To me, it holds together as a great "album".....I can't say I want to skip over any part of it. "The Island" is unreal....it shouldn't work, but it does....the prog-rock sounds in it someow sound new and fresh. The "Perfect Crime" is a fun, groovy curveball in the middle of the disc. Lyrically, Crane Wife is interesting as well...it's almost like being in another world and time. And "Sons and Daughters" seems so simple but is equally beautiful. I love the rhyme "We'll build our walls with alluminum, We'll fill our mouths with cinammon". Then the closing chant, "Let all the bombs fade away"....a nice closer to an album that subtly has an anti-war sentiment.
brianjeremy
The Decemberists' new one has yet to grow on me. Sure, there are some awesome tracks on it but the whole album is kinda boring. I loved their last two albums but never have been a fan of their first album. Can't see why it gets more praise than Her Majesty.
Wendy
This band amazes me at each turn. I think Crane Wife is brilliant, it did not bore me in the least. I love everything they've done, and Colin Meloy's voice is unusual, but it's too bad it is a deal-breaker for some people. There are a lot of other "voices" in the music industry that are much much more annoying, IMO. But that's all it is, my opinion.
Scalzunfield
There are a lot of other "voices" in the music industry that are much much more annoying, IMO. *cough* Bob Dylan *cough* And yet I love 'em both.
Dude
*cough* Bob Dylan *cough* And yet I love 'em both. Dylan doesn't sing in a forced limey / sea shanty accent like Meloy does, tho'.
