muller
So this might die on its ass but there you go... We've had photography threads before but I thought id start one where people can show off their own pictures, ask questions about how to achieve good results whilst taking shots and in post-production etc. Im just getting into live photography after buying a fairly decent camera last year. The first gig I tried it out on was at a Ryan Adams show. I got some pretty good results for a first attempt but spent most of the show fiddling about with my settings. I remember reading in low light conditions you should stick to an ISO of around 1600 and put the camera on Shutter priority. However my best results were when I put the ISO down to 200 - which confused me slightly as shouldnt this blur the image?? Here are some of my better shots... The rest are here:http://www.flickr.com/photos/mullersflickr...57594158562619/ I think this is probably a photoshop question, but does anyone know how the frame effect on the below picture is achieved? Would it be a brush or a filter effect. Ive tried a few things but everything looks pretty shitty.http://www.flickr.com/photos/oxbloodskies/...in/photostream/

kathyp
My Flickr I mostly use toy cameras and recently an old brownie I picked up at a junk/antique shop for around $9. There's some concert stuff in there, but you might have to dig. (I'm semi-retired from concert shooting, or taking a long vacation.)

Ive tried a few things but everything looks pretty shitty.http://www.flickr.com/photos/oxbloodskies/...in/photostream/ I don't use a digital camera, so I don't really know from settings, but I use 1600-6400 ISO film (depending on whether I can use a flash or not) and open up my lens as wide as it will go. Don't count on the club to provide great lighting; most bigger venues do, but smaller clubs have awful lighting. A fill flash really helps, but unfortunately, a lot of clubs don't allow flash photography. My general take on blurry vs sharp: either very blurry or pin sharp. Blurry hands on a guitar always look cool.

kidsmoke
I'm loving all these weird and wonderful shots.....y'all have good photographic eyes and a knack for composition. Also that looks like one very happy puppy dog there, Muller! Yours? Essex looks very pretty.
muller
Yup she's mine alright. Thats Madelaine, she's an English Springer / Border Collie cross. Essex is really nice place - lovely countryside.

Which enabled me to do this:

muller
The Charlatans. I like this one especially as Johnny Cash is on the projection.
deepseacatfish
I'm no expert at photography by any means, nor is my digital camera fancy at all...but here's a couple (small versions of) shots I really like from a trip to South Dakota. ...I'm a big fan of fiberglass/concrete roadside oddities. kathyp
The sloppy border frame that someone used on page one. I've tried most of the frames on flickrtoys. The only one I like is the 35mm "sprocket hole" one.
kathyp
Here's one I like a lot that I took at Jonathan Richman's last Blueberry Hill show (and I figured out how to get an image in here that's hosted on Flickr without breaking their rules):
muller
Where can I get that frame template? http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm#BW_Conv Just scroll down until you come to "Andrea's Borders". There are loads of good ones to use.
kathyp
Thanks. I figured out a lo-fi way to do it by scanning in a photo with a messy border, cropping out (or blacking out in my case) the orginal photo and using it as a template, sort of. More concert stuff. Not my favorite PW shot, but love that hat...
