theologians
It's true, but with my history of albums and my appreciation of them...when something bad sticks out, it's very difficult to push aside. Especially when something is overdone. Too much this, too much that, overproducing....that stuff bothers me. But like I said, The album is pretty good, I just think Nels kinda overdoes it on a few, especially IG.I dont know about that. The ending of IG when Nels goes crazy is the best part. Just my opinion though. He is really playing some crazy licks that contrast with the main solo perfectly.
caliber66
I was less than impressed, but it's an okay album. Shake it Off (the first half anyway) sounds like something that didn't make the cut for Blues for Allah.Somewhat more favorable feelings toward the album after listening to it in the car some. I really like "Side with the Seeds". "Shake it Off" still sounds like something the Dead didn't make - kind of a "Blues for Allah/Sand Castles & Glass Camels" sliding into and out of "West L.A. Fadeaway", and the guitar interludes in "You are My Face" are reminiscent of something off Terrapin. Anyone else hearing this? mountain bed? Anyone?

Anyone?I can hear some of that: with the time changes, etc. Sounds a bit on the experimental side.... I agree that giving SBS a few listens in the car have helped endear me to it moreso than when I was listening while sitting at the computer, especially in regards to Side With Seeds and Hate it Here. I still don't get why On and On is getting the praise it is, though....
Guest Jules
I don't suppose someone could send me a PM with a link to the album? Sorry, I'm late to the party after a weekend of hibernaiton out of town. Thanks!
quarter23cd
A lot of this album reminds me of a lot of great magicians. This is how I read this statement when I was skimming this thread.

EL the Famous
Not an album i'll find myself listening to religiously, but I did enjoy it more after a full uninterrupted listen earlier this morning.  I've appreciated the evolution of their sound from album to album, mostly because each has (until now) been a significant departure from it's predecessor...constantly challenging your own musical scope as a listener to stay with them. SBS, however, just hits me as a severely toned down AGIB. I liked the sharp turn into the addition of power pop on ST...the experimental noise exploration on top of that via YHF...the more organic instrumentalization/production on AGIB...then ? It's not that I don't like it, I just don't feel that challenged by it. I wasn't quite in tune w/ AGIB when it came out, but it held my interest enough to want and try and understand it...until it finally clicked seeing the songs done live at those 1st shows in Dekalb. SBS...well, it sounds really, really, REALLY nice but that there isn't that much else to dig into. You hear it once and you pretty much catch everything going on. Granted, i'll have to spin it a few more times...definitely see some of these tunes come off live...maybe something will unfold. Right now, i'll just say I enjoy it even though it's the first time since AM I feel like i'm listening to something by Wilco that is really well-done, but not that extraordinary. jdmel
in a weird way it may be the best wilco album, but that being said its still not yhf, i dont know if that makes sense to anyone else?? does anyone else think impossible germany needed a strings section, maybe have nels battling it out with his solo at the end??? wilceaux
I've read nothing but praise for "Walken". Which leads me to ask, am I the only one that hates this song? It's the only song on the record I really don't like.

a.miller
You are definately not alone. Someone's description of it being "toothless" compared to live versions is quite accurate. I can't get into Shake it Off either. I also notice that on some of the songs there will be one part that sort of "saves" the song for me, but I don't really like the rest of it. The solo in Either Way saves it for me.

Sir Stewart
There's really not a moment on the whole dang think that I don't like. While that's great and all, I can't automatically give it the raves it probably deserves, since it's the first Wilco album that's grown on me this quickly. Makes me a little
Chendizzle
Strong melodies and hooks seem to be in short supply on this album.
Willkoman
I love how they bring it all back down in Shake it Off at 3 mins or so. Cool as a cucumber. This one is gonna kick ass live.

MattZ
Dark green enough to be blue. Gets me every time. I have no idea why.
Sir Stewart
- Hate It Here and Shake It off sound like Loose Fur- Tweedy's voice hasn't gotten any "better" since 1999.- Turns out "Just A Kid" was a red herring as far as expectations go (none of those are bad things)
MattZ
- Tweedy's voice hasn't gotten any "better" since 1999. I suppose it hasn't in a technical sense. But I think it is way better now. So much more confident. He sings these songs like he owns the bastids.
Guest Jules
Jim O'Rourke didn't produce this one, did he? No, but I believe he mixed it. Speaking of, is this necessarily the final mixing/final version of the album? Obviously, the sound quality will be much better on the official release, but any other potential changes? Just curious of the timing with this kind of thing. I was able to listen quickly in the car over lunch (thanks for the PM, Caliber). I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, even with a few songs that didn't grab me on first listen. For what it's worth, whenever I listen to a new album, I prefer to play it all the way through while looking for any songs that I immediately want to replay. For me, there were 2 on this album; You Are My Face and Hate It Here. Not sure what that says for the rest of them. I can't wait to play this on the full stereo tonight. LouieB
This might be the most boring album I have ever heard. You must not listen to too many albums..... just having a new album from Wilco is exciting enough for me.... LouieB

Maddie Hope
You must not listen to too many albums..... just having a new album from Wilco is exciting enough for me.... LouieBI agree with ya LouieB, a new album from Wilco is exciting!! I've kinda listened to a couple songs, not the whole album, not yet...I wanta be able to pop it in the player and head out on down the road...People need to have faith in "the boys" We all get to have opinions, but it amazes me that so many expects Wilco to be what they want, not what the band wants to be... If a band makes a record I would think it's something they wanted...I'll just wait until May 15th and enjoy the songs and work on a new "wish list" for the next show...
