it's absolutely HORRENDOUS... 100% awful

wow :yucky

Yeah, I'm listening to "If the World" over at Youtube right now. It's, um, really not that great. Or good. I hope the other tracks are better than that one.

nah, they're all shit

it sounds like some GNR meets NIN meets Donna Summer hybrid half the time.

the drums almost all sound like drum machines, and Axl sounds out of breath and terrible on most all of the vocals

man, it's sad how much i used to love them

Different opinions.

There are some pretty shitty tracks, but I'd say it's not a complete mess. It sounded like drum tracks/un-finished/demo stuff to me, too, on several tunes.

i sure hope these are still unfinished... wow

this album is the aural equivalent of Star Wars Episode I, it sounds like it was created nearly entirely via computer

that is why i have virtually no interest in hearing this. if i want an industrial rock sound, i'll listen to NIN or (better yet) ministry. i liked my G'n'R when they were taking influence from ac/dc, hanoi rocks, aerosmith and just a touch of various punk bands. even when they polished up their sound via nice production on use your illusion(s), they were still a ROCK band first and foremost.

spot on.

even if this was just a sad attempt at nostalgia, it'd be better than this.

i'd rather see GNR play the casino circuit or small clubs in the suburbs than to try and be something they are not

How about Tommy's bass playing? That couldn't lift this any?

who knows what is Tommy's and what isn't... word is there's over 2 dozen different musicians on this

that said, the rest of the music was too annoying/grating/bad for me to really focus on any bass lines. i don't plan on subjecting myself to any further listens to check either :lol

Your pain wasn't all pointless. You at least saved me the time of downloading, listening and deleting. Thanks Kyle!

i'd at least wait until the 100% real/final thing comes out before you consider subjecting yourself to it. if the thing ever sees the actual light of day, i may give it one more fair shake.

A friend burned a copy of Chinese Democracy for me off of emule a while ago. I was a GnR fan back in the day but this was awful. I described the sound to my friend as Nickel Back doing Alanis Morrisette covers. Peeeeeeeyeeeeew.

They're all November Rain

i like that song.

i can't help it, anytime i think of GnR i get that end part of that one song where Axl is like:

"yeeeiiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiieeeeeeeiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeee"

but it repeats in my head to the point of hilarity.

one of the big Illusion songs i think.

"Don't You Cry," I think.

And the tune "The Blues" reminds me a little bit of "November Rain," minus the over-indulgence.

that's probably it.

you're not a fan of November Rain?

it was definitely a jump in songwriting from the early stuff.

====================================

just wiki'd it. i was wrong. it was actually an older song (or started earlier anyway):

According to Tracii Guns, former Guns N' Roses guitarist and founding member, Axl Rose had been working on the song since at least 1983. In an interview, he said the following about "November Rain":

When we were doing that EP for L.A. Guns, like '83? He was playing "November Rain"

GNR's 'Democracy' To Be Retail Exclusive?

Guns N' Roses 'Negotiating' To Release New Album

August 15, 2008 , 9:55 AM ET

Ed Christman, N.Y.

The June leak of nine allegedly "mastered, finished" tracks from Guns N' Roses' long-delayed "Chinese Democracy" spurred a renewed round of chatter about whether the Axl Rose-led band will finally release the 14-years-in-the-making album.

But some concrete signs are finally emerging that the album's release could be imminent. That's because, according to sources, negotiations are underway for "Chinese Democracy" to come out as an exclusive at one of the big boxes -- either Wal-Mart or Best Buy.

Negotiations are also ongoing to have conventional record company distribution, another source says.

Guns N' Roses is now managed by Irving Azoff's Front Line Management, and Azoff is a well-known proponent of issuing albums exclusively through retailers. He released the Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden" through Wal-Mart, much to the chagrin of other merchants.

Most recently, it became known that AC/DC's next album will come out exclusively through Wal-Mart. Merchants were particularly incensed that the deal was apparently struck with the blessing of Columbia.

It's unclear who initiated the Guns N' Roses exclusive negotiations -- Front Line or Interscope, the band's label.

Representatives at Front Line and Interscope with knowledge of the situation couldn't be reached for comment by deadline. A Wal-Mart representative says the chain couldn't confirm this fall's exclusives. Best Buy representatives couldn't be reached for comment by deadline.

FBI arrests man over leak of Guns N' Roses songs

LOS ANGELES - Federal authorities say they have arrested a blogger suspected of streaming songs from Guns N' Roses unreleased album, "Chinese Democracy," on his Web site.

FBI agents arrested 27-year-old Kevin Cogill on Wednesday morning on suspicion of violating federal copyright laws. Federal authorities say Cogill posted nine unreleased Guns N' Roses songs on his Web site in June.

The songs were later removed.

According to an arrest affidavit, Cogill admitted to agents that he posted the songs on his Web site.

"Chinese Democracy" is a much anticipated
