gogo
We got this for AGIB, but I don't think there's been a similar credits listing for SBS.
GtrPlyr
Judging by the tone, playing style, and chops it's more than likely Nels Cline playing on this one... or a good Nels impersonator . On the Thin Lizzyesque harmony parts it sound like all 3 guitarists are playing.
useme2305
thanks so far guys. i thought it was jeff tho. anyone who saw them live recently must know for sure? anyone?
bböp
I dunno about the record because I've only heard it once (conscious decision), but in the live arrangement, which I have to think is the same as the studio version, it's Nels who has the initial solo and then Jeff and Pat come in with the counterpoint later. Kicking_Television
that makes sense

Agreed. In the recent live performances Nels gets the shredding (good rule of thumb: 32nd notes = Nels' wheelhouse) and Jeff and Pat have fun with the harmonized counter-melody. You can hear a 3rd harmony guitar on the studio version...it may either be an overdub (and could have been done by any member) or may be a stereo feed of Jeff or Pat with a (very) slight delay. mountain bed
That's the first time I've heard someone use a Thin Lizzy comparison, but come to think of it, that's a good comparison. Didn't Golden Smog cover "Cowboy Song"?

Kalle
I've seen it played two times live, it's Nels at his best. Also Pat plays guitar on this song live too.

I recently came into possession of an album of alternate Abbey Road takes. It's pretty cool.
