Oil Can Boyd
Is it possible that any of those performances came without a grand slam?Fred Lynn 1st inning off Coleman 1 on, 1 out2nd inning off Coleman 2 on, 2 out9th inning off Walker 2 on, 1 outHe also had a triple and a single
Sir Stewart
Fred Lynn used to remind me of Gopher from Love Boat, and vice versa. It was kind of confusing.
jenbobblehead
30-3? wow. and they have to play again RIGHT NOW? glad i'm not an orioles fan.PS. someone give Julio Lugo a sammich.
Whitty
glad i'm not an orioles fan. I still am. I'll take 30-3 over those blown ninth-inning leads we've seen this season. The Rangers don't get bonus points for clobbering us by 27.  We O's fans revel in indifference. When does Bedard pitch again?
Beltmann
Fred Lynn used to remind me of Gopher from Love Boat, and vice versa. It was kind of confusing.I always thought the same thing! True story.

MattZ
This just in: Guillermo Mota sucks! Single-handedly proving that steroids impact a pitcher's performance as much as a hitter's...
cryptique
How ridiculous is it that Wes Littleton was actually credited with a save in that 30-3 game?
quarter23cd
glad i'm not an orioles fan.Honestly, this game hurts no more than any of the rest of this past miserable decade. I'd be surprised if there wasn't an angry mob with torches and pitchforks looking for Angelos after this one...but, then again, most O's fans (like me) stopped paying attention months ago and are just finding out about this now as they arrive at work to find that their O's are the butt of every office joke being made this morning. (I mean even more than usual!)
tongue-tied lightning
on the bright side, the O's only gave up 9 runs in game 2, and lost. they were talking on WFAN about Mota. He's actually been throwing in the high 80's, it's his location that sux. Why Willie keeps using him is the question.
quarter23cd
I think my favorite part about this O's blowout is that it made the front-page feature on SI.com and just below the giant picture of 30-3 on the scoreboard is a second headline that reads: "Orioles extend manager Trembley's contract through 2008" That's just comedy gold right there. Not that you can blame the crappiness of the team on the manager anymore (they've gone through approximately 34 of them in the last few years), but the timing of the announcement is just funny. Heck, I'm strangely proud of 30-3 loss in the same way I'm morbidly proud of that 0-21 start in 1988. Sometimes things in sports are so atrocious that you can't help but stand in awe of them.

Duck-Billed Catechist
I heard/read somewhere that the Rangers set the record for runs scored in a double header. Before the second game started. That's certainly not true. The Twins scored more (than 30) in a double header earlier this year and even that didn't beat the record.
cryptique
So, we were at that Yankees-Tigers game last night ... but before that, we were still home and knew that there was a hellacious storm heading our way (it produced some tornadoes and straight-line winds of over 80 MPH in some areas), so we decided to wait at around the house until the storm passed, just in case there was any damage. After the worst of the storm passed Ann Arbor (around 7:05, when the game was scheduled to start), we decided to get on the road to Detroit. There was steady rain all the way there, but the guys on the radio kept saying that the storm cell was expected to pass by 8 PM and that maybe there'd be baseball by 8:40. Huh. That's why those guys are baseball announcers and not meteorologists. They'd taken the tarp off the field when we arrived, but it was still out in the outfield. Then after we'd been there for an hour or two, they put it back on (more rain came). Then around 10:30, they took it off again, and they announced that the game would start at 11:05 -- four hours after its scheduled start. We'd stuck it out that long, so we decided to stay for some baseball -- but we were extremely exhausted after particularly hellish weeks at work for both of us, and we only made it through the first three innings before we decided to bail (by then it was past midnight, and the Tigers had just gone up 4-3). It's too bad we couldn't stay longer ... it turned out to be quite a game. Walkoff homer in the 11th (at 3:30 in the morning). Wow.

bjorn_skurj
I am not surprised that David Wells is pitching a good game tonight - New York, national TV, a lot to prove. I am surprised that he laid down a bunt single. Put that in yer sabermetrics!
jenbobblehead
i absolutely 100% love it when pitchers do stuff (other than pitch, and hit batters) I was disappointed that the nuttiest thing we got out of Julian today was "pushing" a ball fowl (successfully)
