Album artwork

Recommended Posts

(Preface: Analogman, if you happen to stumble upon a post about this from months (or years?) ago, I apologize, I searched...)

I've got the Being There vinyl up on my wall, and I have to say, it's the worst Wilco album art. Seems like a last minute thing...

So, why not rate album art?

YHF

SBS

AM

AGIB

ST

BT

AGIB (it was grammy winning, after all)

YHF (for cover alone, i might place it first, but the city/water pictures

SBS (the nature photo is cool, though less interesting in context with the music as AGIB or YHF. i like the photo of the gang inside)

BT (simple, yes. but to me it seems to be in the spirit of the album. i listen to it and imagine wilco as being really loose and energetic in the studio, and all the artwork seems to be photos of them in the studio.)

ST (not a fan of the band standing around looking vacant. on the inside they're separate, Coomer's stranded at the gas station for pete's sake. i much prefer the happy family inside SBS)

AM (very meh, not offputting, just doesn't seem as thoughtful as the rest)

Does anyone know if the Marina Towers were altered (position wise, obviously the picture was) at all when making the YHF cover? My friend and I were walking around that area talking about the possible vantage points for that picture. Has anyone tried to recreate that? I did a Google Image search and saw a few interesting takes...

yes it says in the appendix to the Wilco Book that they actually moved one of the towers over a few feet to the left.

If you count the vinyl version of AGIB, I think that is my favourite. (The nest) I happen to agree with the point that Being There was probably just cobbled together although the picture of Jeff shouting into a mic makes me wonder if that's what he looks like when he's having an argument...

Very random I know...

AGIB and YHF are my two faves.

I'll take it another step and ask if anyone else feels like the emotions conveyed by the cover art bears any relevance on the musical content of the repective album?

I definately think that YHF fits the music. It could be because of the documentary, though...
