unposed_question
I couldn't find this thread, so I don't know if it has been discussed before. But has anyone seenany interviews where Jeff discusses the band's decision not to produce videos for MTV (or VH1)?Perhaps he feels they trivialize the music or pigeon hole the song. I'm just curious, as some bands I like (the White Stripes) have seemed to utilize the medium to spreadtheir music to a bigger audience. And it would be cool to see a video for Hate it Here or Impossible Germany, IMHO.
WaronWar
Well, they have some videos from the hey day of A.M. and Being There. I have seen "Casino Queen," "I Must Be High," "Box Full Of Letters," and "Outta Site (Outta Mind)." But that's it. I don't think they do music videos anymore, but if you're looking for any sort of video of the band performing I would suggest as others most likely would The DVD Project. OOO
they view the VW ads as semi music videos and ways into a bigger audience. Not trying to rekindle that flame, but thats the way they are going about things.

mfwahl
This is the way to do a video involving doctors I'm sorry. That was actually alright once I muted it. I wish I could like radiohead but all their songs sound the same and their songs make me feel sad because they sings like he just got kicked in the balls. Crying makes me uncomfortable. I really wish I could like them. I've tried about once a year for the past 10 or so years. Still like creep; that's a good tune.

TONS of people absolutely hate the band, so I don't mind. There are also TONS who love it, so it's cool.

Guest Speed Racer
There was a video for Jesus, Etc. using footage from IATTBYH and a live video of I'm a Wheel that got some circulation on MTV2. So really, SBS is the only record for which they haven't released a proper video. As to why they hadn't gone that route, I don't know if you recall, but they used to be on this label that didn't think to much of them after their first two albums. They did three (four?) proper videos for AM/BT combined, and it was only when ST came out that they slowed down. Most likely due to band's lack of interest combined with Reprise's lack of budget for that kind of thing.
Analogman
Even though it's been years since the channel has shown the videos it honors, the MTV Video Music Awards persist. This year's top nominees, announced today, are Beyonce and Justin Timberlake with seven apiece, followed by Kanye West and Rihanna with five, and Amy Winehouse with three. MTV typically waits until the very last second to find/announce a host for its signature awards show, but thus far West, Winehouse, Rihanna, Fall Out Boy, Lily Allen, Chris Brown and Foo Fighters are committed to perform, with more acts to be announced soon. In at least a nod to the fact that MTV is no longer really a music video network, a few new categories have been added to the show. Male and Female artist of the year recognize an artist's complete body of work in 2007, while Monster Single of the Year and Quadruple Threat award (honoring "those boundary-busting artists who have conquered multiple worlds including, but not limited to; music, fashion, philanthropy, business, acting and dance") give the network's bookers latitude to honor celebrities who haven't had much of a video presence, but who might bring in some ratings. If that seems slightly desperate, it is. For years, the Video Music Awards were MTV's highest-rated programming event. Launched in 1984, with Dan Aykroyd and Bette Midler hosting, the ceremony was a remarkably fresh and satirical take on dull old awards shows. Because its premise was that the awards themselves were a joke
Sharon
I don't think there's much point in Wilco making music videos anymore. They are not the sort of band that would receive much airplay anyway. And with the internet taking over, I think music videos are becoming less and less important these days. MTV has stopped playing videos and even the hyped VMAs doesn't seem that relevant anymore.

wallflower77
I've seen the others mentioned above but have not seen the Casino Queen video. Anyone have a link to that? There's a downloadable live clip of Casino Queen on iTunes which I'm assuming is the video...
ction
You know what would be kinda cool? A cable channel devoted to showing promotional music video clips by a wide variety of artists, past and present.
mfwahl
Wasn't there a video for Kicking Television (ironic, right?) on MTV2 from scratched DVD?
squarewave
I saw a Wilco video on one of those video jukeboxes at a bar I stopped into... I played it, and I remember the small airport/skydiving theme (with jeff in a weird helmet and goofy goggles) but I don't remember which song it was... It was a Being There track, maybe "Outta Site"?? I had been at a benefit beforehand, and I was well lubricated when I found this in the jukebox. In fact, I didn't even realize it was a video jukebox at first... Even though wee had been there for over an hour before I decided to throw some dough into the jukebox. It took a few songs into my set before I noticed that the videos were playing along on every other TV in the place!!! I was pretty stoked to see the Wilco video come on, I was expecting the song only...
Sharon
Yeah, Outtasite is the skydiving one. You can actually buy a lot of the Wilco vids on iTunes. Outtasite, Casino Queen, Box Full Of Letters and I Must Be High are all on there. Sadly no Shot In The Arm.
Atticus
it's Video of the Year, in which Winehouse's Rehab battles against Beyonce's Irreplaceable, Justice's D.A.N.C.E., Timberlake's What Goes Around Come Around,, West's Stronger and Rihanna's Umbrella. I've not heard one of these songs. I must be getting old.

squarewave
Well, on the Eve of the 1983 New Year, KISS played the Rockford MetroCentre. I wasn't there, but friends of my parents' son (who was 5 yrs. older than I am) went, and I spent the entire NYE at that dude's house with my parents (who were playig cards and celebrating). I remember spending the bulk of the night watching this cool ass TV channel called MTV at this dude's tricked out family room setup with TV and a kickin' HI-FI.He was pissed that I had played his recoreds while he was at the show, but he forgave me because I put them away when I was done and didn;t leave them laying around. (plus he was stoned out of his gourd) My parents gave him some cash earlier in the night to buy me a t-shirt, but I got a jersey instead.(you 70s/early 80s concert goers know the kind of jersey I am talking about, white shirt with black 3/4 length sleeves) If my memory serves, they also had an IntelliVision video game that I played. I remember a lot of really awesome stuff for the first MTV NYE Special. Of course, I was in love with Martha Quinn, and thought JJ Jackson was the coolest cat ever...
