Rdm
I'm new to this board and I have never been to a Wilco concert, but I'm going to the Berkley show, and i was wondering what is the best way to experience Wilco. Is it from the pit or seating. Also, if I decide to go in the pit is there any energy? Thanks, any feedback will be appreciated.
froggie
it depends on the crowd around you, really. the band (that Jeff guy) seems to prefer you to stand - but you might get some person behind you that has his/her arse super-glued to the chair, so see what the crowd's like first if you're talking about General admissions, forget what i said - stand up
WilcoFan
For Wilco shows, the closer the better. And always standing up.
zebra
I imagine a lot of space between the people on the floor. Sorry, I can't see a 'pit' at a Wilco concert.
ZenLunatic
Closer the better so PIT. You have to stand the whole concert but a true fan would to be that close. Sitting is for crappy seats.
isadorah
if there's a general admission pit, the whole scrum of people down front and center with no seats around, do that most definitely and get there when the doors open you can actually be down front and center. it is an experience like no other. of course, if you are small and slender there will always be someone larger and unaware of their surroundings right on top of you, but still worth the experience. Lammycat
There are "pits" at Wilco shows now? My advice for GA shows is to hang off to the sides/near the back on the floor. I can't deal with being pushed up against other folks for several hours at a time. Anywhere that the sound is excellent without being pressed against other humans is the spot to be, imo. But clean and loud sound is the key. I don't care if I can look into Jeff's eyes or not.... Then again I'm old and cranky.
Hodie
There are "pits" at Wilco shows now?Wilco is playing a lot of shows in theaters/symphony halls these days, so there is sometimes actually an orchestra pit that gets used as GA space. On the other hand, I haven't seen a lot in the way of mosh pits at Wilco shows. To answer the topic's question -- live performance for me is about the performers, and whether it's music or theater or basketball, I want to be close. When I'm in the mood for perfect sound, I stay home with my headphones. So yeah, in my opinion, assuming the pit's in front, it's better than sitting.
Edie
One can hardly sit at a Wilco show anyway -- makes dancing much less effective. GO FOR THE PIT!
Nowhereman65
Dancing........ One can hardly sit at a Wilco show anyway -- makes dancing much less effective. GO FOR THE PIT!
keylime
Dancing........ You mean: Dancing..... It is extremely difficult for me to stay sitting a Wilco concert...when Wilco played Massey Hall in 2006 and everyone was sitting (before Jeff yelled at us) I wanted to stand so badly, but I didn't want to piss off the people behind me and I was too shy to dance in the aisle by myself. Thankfully every other time I've seen Wilco I have been on my feet and moving!

Good Old Neon
Why not compromise and simply sit in the pit? Huh? Huh? Why don't cha - huh?
keeprighton2
Saw Bloc Party at Berkeley at The Greek Theatre last summer - there's a semi circle standing area down at the front that will hold a couple of thousand I reckon. The rest is sitting on the steps in the ampitheatre. Spectacular view of the place it has to be said and you're not too far from the stage but its a big place - holds several thousand. Don't expect much movement even down at the front for Wilco, just lots of head-nodding admiration.
radiokills
is that even a question? pit, easily. i dont think it counts as a legitimate concert if ur sitting down removed from the stage.
unposed_question
is that even a question? pit, easily. i dont think it counts as a legitimate concert if ur sitting down removed from the stage. As someone with a disability who has a hard time standing and keeping his balance, I think youcan sit wherever you damn well want to and still be counted as a serious fan going to a concert. Yes it was crowded, but that didn't stop anyone.
