I got some decent pictures, but mostly lousy ones! I'll post a link in a bit.

Sarah, nice to meet you, and to see Colin again. And Julie, so sorry you weren't there! Sarah and I were looking for you. Hope everything's better now. :cheekkiss

We did get to see old-time VCer blis, but no dignan sighting. And we looked!

No specific mention of it being the birthday show. Although there were a few hoots from the crowd.

Jeff mentioned how much they enjoy playing in the Bay Area (he actually said San Francisco, but I'll toss you East Bay folks a bone on this one :lol ). And we were very proud to be hosting the 40th birthday shindig. :dancing A bit chillier than their last show at the Greek, but still a fantastic night.

I was living in Healdsburg when these tix went on sale, and I bought a pair. This was to be my first show at the world reknowned Berkeley Greek and I was really, really looking forward to it.

Then... my wife's company sent us to SoCal. The Inland Empire. Ugh.

My friend Tim got to use my tickets last night, not me.

:ohwell

Great night... So happy to hear Too Far Apart! That song kicked ass live! And after Jeff would sing "Via Chicago" I was wondering how many of you guys were out there cheering when he said those words.

Hey, Colin and I were wondering if you were there. But since neither of us knows what you look like...

Awww! I wish I had known that! Well, I look just like my picture here ;) I was too the left, just a couple steps up from the pit. Great view. Very happy.

And those are some great pics! I really wish my poor camera took better ones. All of mine are blurry. But I'll still treasure them. I also got Tweedy's 41 or 42 nothings recorded on my cell phone.

Damn it, next time they're in town I will have to meet you all!!!

Though the Greek is located at my alma mater, Wilco is just about the only band that can lure me there from San Francisco for a show (so much for school pride). Glad to hear the enthusiasm around us, and hey, it's always nice to have the band vindicate my own bias toward this lovely region.

42 "nothings"s? I hope that means they'll be back around the same time in a couple of years.

Yeah, I think there was kind of a mention of his 40th. After the "Nothings" he asked someone or some people in the first few rows how many. Someone yelled, "42!" He turned away from the mic then turned back, looking disappointed, said something like, "42? Awwww, well, it's sort of a personal thing..." I guess one could interpret that he was trying to nail 40 of them on the nose.

First post...

I have to say at the outset for the past four years or so Wilco has climbed up my top bands list to number 2 (right under Pink Floyd). I've been so turned off by 21st century music that it was so enlightening when I finally discovered YFH and Summerteeth in 2003.

Cal is also my alma mater and I love the Greek more than any other venue I've ever been too. I had seen Wilco at Coachella a few years back for a measly 45 minute set and this set, three times longer, was the second most amazing show I've ever seen (surprisingly right behind David Gilmour). Pat Sansone, Nels Cline, and Glenn Kotche were just unbelievable. I hope heaven is that show over and over again.

One thing no one has mentioned was Jeff's second line to the crowd "You guys smell high." Which was pretty right on...there's not many places (I guess Portland according to Jeff) where 20,000 people can gather and collectively break the law with no consequences...and it was a good idea to because it made Nels' flailing, Jeff's perfectly-toned voice, John's "Steve Zahn in That Thing You Do"-like demeanor, and Pat's ultimate rock star guitar playing all mesh together for something no less than amazing.

I was blown away.

I paid $90 for two tickets and it's refreshing to see a band play for $0.60/minute...

To top it off, California Stars.

Remarkable.

Yeah, he leaned over and said something to Nels, that seemed to be what he was saying.

Did anyone see people taping the show? Would really

love a copy. Cool that it was Jeff's bday. The setlist looks pretty amazing.

Yes, there was a taper there. :yes

I imagine my friend and I were the only ones last night not lighting up, but there was really no need to. Just had to breathe the air!

Which reminds me of one event that happened near the end of the first encore: This dude was making his way up from the pit, when he just stopped in front of my friend and myself and was all "I'm so wasted right now. This is the best Phish show I've ever seen."

p.s. And welcome to the board, Berkules!!!

First of all, thank you. I wish I would've found this forum a while ago.

I did turn to my girlfriend and say "We didn't even need to bring joints, everyone must have a contact high."

It was a great Phish concert!! lol That's hilarious.

I also liked the bongrip reference during, what was it, Either Way? Can't remember, I was pretty wasted myself.

What a great, great show. For all of the reaons that have already been mentioned. Although the Greek is not my favorite venue either, that sure didn't seem to matter last night, when I was seeing my favorite band in the world alongside some of my favorite people in the world. Couldn't have asked for much more . . .

I believe it was Shake It Off.

The show was pretty amazing. It was a very good set list. Sunken Treasure was a great to start it off. I think though, it was Handshake Drugs that got the crowd going, especially Jeff and Nels' guitar interplay towards the end. Nels seemed supercharged, frantic and spastic in his solos. He had a nice solo on the end of In A Future Age, which faded very nicely into Spiders. I thought A Shot in the Arm was also particularly rousing.

Jeff challenged us (in regards to the pot smoke) by say that we had a long way to beat Portland. At the end he said "you always win!"

this was my first wilco show and the best three hours of my life. i was standing in the very front row and getting to experience their music like that was amazing. highlights for me were Too Far Apart, Shot in the Arm and Misunderstood (although all the new material was incredible also). It was also pretty cool when Jeff got rid of that guy's hat.

I was wondering when somebody was going to mention that, it pissed me off when he threw it the second time and hit Tweedy. I have to admit I was smiling when Tweedy threw it the other direction.
