Denver September 2

Recommended Posts

I thought there was more energy tonight, although it took a few songs to find their groove. Nice to hear some different tunes, although there were a few repeats, including Spiders. Nice to hear Poor Places, Reservations, Forget the Flowers, Sunken Treasure, Theologians, Company in my Back, Late Greats, What Light, Sky Blue Sky, Red Eyed and Blue, I Got You, California Stars, and Hesitating Beauty. I think those were all the songs that weren't played last night. The show really, really took off after an absolutely cataclysmic version of Shot in the Arm. I think I've heard that song at every show I've been to, including last nights, and I've NEVER heard it like that. Forget the Flowers was a really nice treat. No complaints, whatsoever. Not even with two nights of Spiders, which I always hear thinking "I don't care if I ever hear that again" but somehow enjoy anyway.

Also, the poster was really awesome and I bought one.

pretty sure that's all the songs, the order of the main set is probably a little jacked up.

I had a ton of fun at both of these shows, but Sunday night was probably my favorite. Nels jumped off his stool during "Spiders" and wound up playing on his back for a minute. I loved hearing "Red-Eyed & Blue/I Got You," among many others. Richard Swift and Casey Foubert joined in for a really great rendition of "California Stars," with Casey taking a solo. Great fun all around tonight. Duluth, I'm preemptively jealous.

really a great, great show. I thought JT seemed to be in a great up-tempo mood. Last time I saw a show was over two years and things seemed much more upbeat- lots of smiles with the band.

By far- the best song of the night: Shot in the Arm. It was amazing. They really showed off and it sounded unbelivable.

Other favorites: Too Far Apart, Poor Places, Reservations, and Theologians.

And I thought "I'm The Man Who Loves You" was good too. I thought the vocals, or the way that JT was delievering it was slightly different than normal- but it was a good way to end the set.

And Nels is crazy. So entertaining to watch! Lots of movement, guitar above the head, lying on his bacj, etc. haha.

surprised no one mentioned this...

JT was talking after playing a song off of A.M.(Too Far Apart). They really did a great job with it and the crowd loved it.

He said: "That's off an album called A.M. It is way underated. Does not get enough respect. In my opinion... but I'll tell you what we are going to do. This lineup (and waved his arms across towards NC, JS, GK, etc)... this lineup right here. We are going to re-record that album. We will record it and call it B.M. and you will all love it. It will sell and you will all be saying it's the greatest album ever..." (from the best of my memory)

It was funny. I love A.M. One of my favorite albums. But I believe he was referencing that the majority of the audience wasn't familiar with it.

i really was happy to see reservations. when the noise built up at the end of poor places i was expecting them to go into spiders but then i saw the tech brought jeff an acoustic and i was just thinking please please play reservations.

other highlights were red-eyed and blue and i got you - after i got you the tech was again bringing an acoustic but jeff looked at him, shook his head and said "spiders".

i wonder what was left off...

I had an amazing time at both shows, and was pleased with the varying song selection. I taped both nights and am very happy with the results. The Fillmore staff was super cool about taping, and didn't hassle me about being as close as I was to the stage. I loved the fact that Jeff called people out on disliking A.M. It's one of their best records, and until 2001, it's song listing accounted for 30-40% of the set lists. Met the band afterwards, and tried to throw out the idea of playing Las Vegas to Jeff and company. I had done this before and low and behold they eventually came to Vegas, twice. Jeff responded in absolute facetiousness by saying "I love Las Vegas, it's the last great American city", to which everyone laughed. Loved the poster they made for the Fillmore shows, and loved the Ramones-ish stickers even more. Anyone who has torrenting experience hit me up for the shows and I'll send them your way via snail mail. I don't know how to upload shows, but I should have both shows transferred by weeks end. Night 2 has literally zero audience as my mics were near the stacks near the front, about 10 feet from the crowd.

Just wanted to congrats Wilco on yet another fine show. I was lucky enough to be able to catch Wilco both nights in Denver. Great setlist with Sunken Treasure and Outta Site, Outta Mind, Hesitating Beauty, etc, etc. My favorite part of the concert was the pretty california blonde in pig tails next to me the first night. She's knows who she is, cause we've met before. Don't know if she reads these, but if she does it was pleasure talking with you. You made the trip to see Wilco worth it even more so. We must meet again soon. Thanks for the autograph Jeff.

The show was possibly my favorite yet. The only moment I started to roll my eyes was when ITMWLY started for the upteenth show, but they have toyed with it a little and it was totally amazing. Drunk guy next to me was hollering to his friend that they would play 'I Got You' I almost bet him ten bucks they wouldn't. Good thing I didn't.

Anyone who thinks Nels is all wank should have seen him pogoing like a teenager while strumming an open chord on Shot in the Arm.

Beautiful show.

super brief: after this show, sighed all the way to pete's kitchen for late night french toast and bacon (natch) and then all the way to back to the hote. swoony with the fantastic set list: sublime->racous->gorgeous->head banging...

i re-bruised the knee i'd smacked while dancing at the greek last week. FIERCE! :pirate

wotta hoot! wotta riot! wotta great fucking crowd!

EN FUEGO! especially great to see these guys burn off the ghosts of those less-than-intimate, often stodgy, reserved seat venues. for them, and us. :dancing :dancing :dancing

also: after the show, took a side trip to the broken arrow. oh, my. danced in there until just before last call. (no twirling! but several of us were busting our best deadhead moves)

also, brianne, thanks for being a rockin' hip partner! the front row was so tight, if one person jumped up, we all jumped up.

(now i'm all giddy again. what a terrific weekend!)
