Mr. Heartbreak
The way this thread has devolved is pretty absurd. The Band were a decent backing band for Dylan, and they cranked out a few classics of their own, but I don't believe they even belong in the same universe as The Beatles. They are not better, or as good, or even a distant second. I can think of a whole slew of bands -- from the Stones to the Dead to Floyd -- who I would rank way ahead of The Band. Hell, they wouldn't even make my top 100 list.
caliber66
A perfectly valid opinion, but an opinion nonetheless.

JerseyMike
Talking about The Beatles place in music history compared to other bands is like talking about the existence of Jesus. Yeah, he may or may not have walked the earth, etc., etc, but so many people believe in him, its kind of a mute point...
cryptique
Yeah, he may or may not have walked the earth, etc., etc, but so many people believe in him, its kind of a mute point...Or "moot," as the case may be.
ction
"moot," "Jessie's Girl" is the best song with moot in the lyrics, but Rick Springfield is not better than the Beatles.

embiggen
The Beatles were the greatest band ever put together in the history of the world. EVER! factual!
bjorn_skurj
Perhaps John was on to something when he said the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. They've certainly put out more albums than He.
markosis
I might like to add the Robbie Robertson's wife is way hotter than Yoko. So lets see: 1. Cooler beards2. Hotter wife The Band wins.
