To each his own, but I am going on Wed next week in NYC. If Dan is not there I am turning around and walking out. I am tired of buying tickets for the New Pornographers and getting there only to find out it is not the full lineup. Even if Neko is there -- no Dan means no me.

Ok, maybe I won't leave. But I will be really bummed until about 30 seconds into the first tune. :)

i love Dan and i love destroyer for the most part, but his songs aren't usually my favorite NP tracks (w/ the exception of Myriad Harbor and Jackie)

Testament to Youth in Verse!!! I hate that Carl usually sings that when they tour...

Ballad of a Comeback Kid is great too (for me).

I wonder why Dan is conspicuously absent when they play Slow Descent into Alcoholism....

(and don't tell me it's because he doesn't have a part in the song; it was probably written about him for chrisakes)

The show last night was impressive. Great mix of songs from all albums. I love seeing the NPs live because the energy and atmosphere is just fun. And that big flashy sign they have! That's sweet!

Was at the show in Chicago @ Metro last night. VERY heavy on the Bejar tunes on the setlist. It was great to see him and Neko with the band. Good stuff.

And since I can't remember the order, here are (most of, maybe all of) the songs they played:

Mass Romantic: Mass Romantic, Slow Descent Into Alcoholism, Jackie, Letter From An Occupant (closer)

Electric Version: From Blown Speakers, Laws Have Changed, Testament To Youth In Verse

Twin Cinema: Twin Cinema, Bones Of An Idol, Use It, Bleeding Heart Show, Jackie Dressed In Cobras, Sing Me Spanish Techno

Challengers: My Right Vs Yours, All The Old Showstoppers, Challengers, Myriad Harbour, All The Things That Go To Make Heaven & Earth (opener), Unguided, Adventures In Solitude, Spirit Of Giving In

Went to the show in Calgary (Oct.12th) and it was great to see the whole band (Dan and Neko included). I recorded the show and posted it at Dimeadozen.

Went to their show at the Metro here in Chicago on Thursday (and thanks to that good night, Friday, as well.)

This was the 2nd-3rd time I've seen them, first time with Neko and Dan, and I can't even compare the two experiences. I'll even go as far to say that NP should NOT tour without them. The Thursday night show was great, a good mix between all their albums, while at the same time, not going too heavy on "Challengers". Neko sounded amazing, love the fact the sound guy bascially turns her mic up even louder than AC. There is just something about seeing Neko live, she is one of those artists that transfers her voice so flawlessly between the studio and stage. Easily my favorie female vocalist, and this weekend she was in top form. Makes me melt. My friend and I actually went to Smart Bar for a few after the show, and ending up meeting several band members... and had a nice long convo with Emma Pollack (who was outstanding as well) and her keys player....mostly about their first trip to Chicago and comparnig to the UK. Very nice people, they ended up putting me on the guest list for the Friday night show. I didnt end up staying for the full show on Friday night, it just seemed twice as packed and HOT, even though both were sold-out. Seemed like NP was a bit out of sorts as well, Neko kept complaining to turn off a smoke machine that basically filled Metro with a thick haze. Anyways, great shows... just when I was about to give up hope on their live shows, they completely came through on all cylinders this past weekend.

Great great show in Boston last night. I don't have a set list but it looks similar to what they have been playing at other shows. A nice mix from every album. They just cranked out one great song after another. Bejar was in fine form. During one song I thought he was holding up a percussion/shaker thing, but I think it was actually an orange. Neko rules and Kathryn was great.

I actually thought the same exact thing last night.

This was the 4th time I've seen them, 2nd time with Neko and 1st time with Dan. Dan is the man. I was grinning from ear to ear whenever he came out. And Neko? Well. Let me just say that she is even more beautiful and her voice is even more stunning from 4-5 standing rows back at Webster Hall.

The sound mix sucked and was inconsistent, the mics were all screwed up and giving off feedback, and Webster Hall lived up to its rep last night. Neko looked like she was ready to kill someone at one point, but she held it together and gave it her all. Seemed like the band wasn't thrilled with the setup, but they were pros and played their butts off. The energy made up for the sound struggles.

Does anyone else think that Kurt Dahle carries this band from the shadows? He's simply amazing. And you rarely here anyone talking about him.

The last time I saw the NP (in Vancouver), I ignored Neko, Carl, and Dan and just watched Kurt all night. He's great!

I went to see them a couple of weeks back in London. There was no Dan or Neko, but Kathryn Calder did an ace job of filling in Neko's part (please overlook any rude connotations in the last part of that sentence). She's got a really good voice and also brings the added bonus of lowering the average NP's age by a good 5 years :) . Her band, Immaculate Machine, is pretty good too and their latest album, Fables, is a treat: very New Pornographers.

Still in the absence of Bejar they did at least play a few of his tunes (Myriad Harbour, etc) for their intro and outro music.

It sounds as though you guys had the full monty from the NP experience.

anyone else going to the show in DC tomorrow night, 9:30 club?

Yep. I started the thread because I was considering unloading my tix if Neko and Dan weren't on the tour. After I found out they were there is no way that I am missing this.

Probably something like 10 hours til showtime. :cheers
