dazzler
First the Declaration: I AM a Stander Dammnit!!!And the missus' Declaration: I'm a dancer, a good dancer!!! Wilco played a stellar set that really seemed to zip past too quickly. The dragon's eggs at Union Street were great as always (and for a change the service was speedy and efficient). Parking was free and a breeze. We walked through the door at the Town Pump and there were two seats opening at the bar. I ran into some friends I hadn't seen in years. So a great night. We almost missed Wilco opening due to the control freak ushers. My first thought: When did Jeff get a Nudie suit?Followed by: What kind of shoes does one wear with a Nudie suit?Any answers to the second question would be apreciated. Highlights for me: Pot Kettle Black - a song I hum constantlySide with the Seeds - my fave from SBSShot in the Arm - AlwaysSpiders - the grin from Jeff at the crowd cheer from the first "on a private beach in Michigan". It was the kind of grin that said, "I knew they were gonna do that."Jesus Etc. w Andrew Bird - just beautifulthe second encore - nuff said. For the missus a big shout out goes to Phil who was kind enough to lend her his second row pit seat for the second encore. It capped off her night (week? month?). And probably amused John and Pat. foolnrain97
Glad to see that Leo got Pot Kettle Black AND a little love from A.M. at his hometown show.
augurus
In A Future Age with Andrew Bird was amazing. It was my highlight of the night along with Jesus with Mr. Bird. Anyone else in the Orchestra Pit feel the floor wobble from left to right during the second encore? Curses to the early curfew of the venue.
rover96
What did Andrew Bird do during "Spiders"? Looks like a great set. I'm so jealous I'm missing out on all this hot guesting action.
dazzler
What did Andrew Bird do during "Spiders"? Fiddled.
Leo
And whistled. Yeah, Bird whistled during Spiders.Amazing show. They just keep getting better. The sound in the Fox was amazing from the 7th row. Clear and BIG. Highlights: PKB (thanks Bryan). an amazing version of Via Chicago - Glenn was outstanding during the dark/disruptive/violent passages. the 2nd encore flat-out rocked. being there with all 3 kids. dinner with Wendy, Tom, Melissa, Aaron, Rachel and my sister, Carol and, visiting with Chris and Jen.Oh yeah, I'm definitely a stander, even though the few rows in front of us were sitting through most of the 1st set.I'm still pumped from Casino Queen. taker13
It was and AWESOME show! Saw them in London, ON last year and Jeff was still in the boot. Tonight they definitely seemed to have a connection to the crowd after he called out the "factions" "standers vs. sitters." That was, until he took a video phone away from a guy in the front row. He came out and shook the guy's hand, but I'm sure any footage he took was deleted before the assistant gave it back to him. My girlfriend was rocking through the whole thing, except in Handshake Drugs when I asked her to marry me and now she is my fiance'! Went to the Town Pump after the show for some celebration and happened to stumble out when Nels was meeting fans and signing autographs. He was great and very cordial. A big thanks to Peter who lent me a Sharpie to get his autograph and the un-named fan who took our picture. You guys were great! Best part of the show: Jeff calling out the Columbus crowd
ArtOfficial
Registered just to say what an amazing show this was, front to back. Highlights: From Andrew Bird's set, Plasticities, Scythian Empires, and "What should I play next? Opposite Day? Well then Opposite Day it is." From Wilco's jawdropping set: Pot Kettle Black, Walken, In A Future Age (and for that matter, everything they did with Andrew Bird really sparkled), THE ENTIRE SECOND ENCORE. I almost couldn't contain myself when Jeff broke into Casino Queen. I never thought I'd get to hear that live. It was a very complete show. That's the only way I can describe it. The first concert I've ever been to that didn't leave me wishing. They played everything I wanted to hear, and added a few fantastic surprises on top...they seemed to me like a bunch of guys at the stage in their musical careers where they realize the stuff they played when they were younger still rocks, and that they should really bring their best to every show. Thank you, Wilco.
Groovylou8
my first wilco show so i don't have anything to compare it to. But for my first show, i was fortunate enough to see pot kettle black (probably my favorite wilco song which i've heard is a rarity), a shot in the arm, spiders, impossible germany, and the entire second encore. the set was under two hours, but considering they breaked for literally 20 seconds between songs, i wasn't complaining. like my brother was saying, they really didn't allow any time for the crowd to take a breather during the entire show. the fox was a beautiful venue, and andrew bird was awesome. also, did anyone else think the sound was kinda fucked up for the first couple of songs?.. i thought jeff was turned up way louder than everyone else. they fixed it about half way through the show, and near the end, turned the volume up big time, as my ears were ringing after show. anyway, great first show, and thank you wilco for giving props to, as jeff said it, "detroit rock city"
insideoutoflove
My girlfriend was rocking through the whole thing, except in Handshake Drugs when I asked her to marry me and now she is my fiance'!aww congratulations!! an interesting song choice to pop the question... haha was that planned or did it just so happen to be that song? wow, i predicted the andrew bird jumping in on jesus etc at some point on this tour but never would have thought he'd get so much stage time with the guys! thats fantastic. must have really added something special to those songs..i cant even imagine
Venus
My girlfriend was rocking through the whole thing, except in Handshake Drugs when I asked her to marry me and now she is my fiance'! I think I was sitting in your aisle! Congratulations! What a great show. They need to come back really soon...
Wendy
My first thought: When did Jeff get a Nudie suit?Followed by: What kind of shoes does one wear with a Nudie suit?Any answers to the second question would be apreciated.Detroit was the second appearance of the Nudie suit. He debuted it the night before in Columbus (see Columbus thread). Shoes? Very plain black (maybe dark brown) shoes that barely show because of the longish pants. (picture from last night in Columbus) Anyone else in the Orchestra Pit feel the floor wobble from left to right during the second encore? It was wild! Everyone was shakin' it side to side and laughing hysterically. Fun night in Detroit! The Fox was a great venue for this really great band. I'm inclined to say this Detroit show just barely surpassed the Columbus show by the sheer fact that Andrew Bird played on FOUR songs! In fact, Jeff called him the 7th member of Wilco. IMO, this should be a true statement.
cryptique
It was an amazing show ... my second time seeing this lineup, and they've grown so much as a live band in
terrfish
Absolutely a fantastic show. This was the 7th time I have seen the band live and it was far and away the best show I have seen. This lineup is so amazing and tight. THEY TOTALLY ROCKED! I was excited to hear some tunes that had been talked about here (Pot Kettle and Too Far Apart) but I mean, CASINO QUEEN! ?!??!! I will be living off that for days.... and I love, love that Jeff's suit has hummingbirds on it. I can't wait for this show to emerge out there somewhere, and I know it will, as there was a taper in the row behind me. THANKS WILCO! Can't wait to see you back in Rock City! Gobias Industries
GOD DAMN Hummingbird and IN A Future Age and Spiders with Bird? I went to the wrong show.
Chris_H_2
How filled was the place? Half capacity? 3/4? I knew that there were a bunch of tickets still up prior to the show.
keylime
OH MAN!!! Totally worth the trip. This show was amazing. My 7th time seing them, and the played 7 songs that I've never heard live before. That's incredible. I was a stander, right form the beginning. I tried to move a bit closer (I was in the 5th row aisle, and I couldn't see fully because of the guys in front of me) and the security guard was not having it. He even hit my leg a couple of times when I was leaning into the aisle to get a better look at Mikael and Glenn at one point! I was pissed. And the people in the first few rows on our side didn't stand up until Spiders I think!!! I wish I was in their spot. Sidenote, I felt really nauseus before the show, and that continued through the first few songs (although I did my best to ignore it), so when the floor started shaking, I thought it was me. I freaked out, sat down and grabbed my friends arm because I thought I was about to pass out. She saw the look of terror on my face and yelled "Its the floor!!" So I got right back up and started dancing. But I did not find that very amusing. Highlights for me were Pot Kettle Black (finally!!), Too Far Apart which was INCREDIBLE, Shot in the Arm, Via Chicago {really struck me last night, my eyes welled up), and second encore was PERFECT. I never thought I'd be so happy to hear Casino Queen!! Thanks Wilco You never dissapoint! EDIT: I forgot Jeff's suit!!!!!!! LOVE IT.
sean Patrick
this was my 3rd show.overall, it was my least favorite, due to it being in the rock city. they knew they had to rock. i was a stander, but due to being short, i was probably though of as a sitter. oh well. i miss the poor places/ reservations/ spiders... i guess they knew they couldnt be quiet as avant garde as lansing or london. oh well. however, i was rocking out to the second encore like the rest. amazing show. i loved a. bird. who wouldnt want to whistle like that? amazing chops. the ushers were such fucking rent a cops too. i wanted to approach the stage to try to give one of them a cd after it was over. i was stopped, arms pushed against my chest. "you are going the wrong fucking way." in the kind of voice only a large black man can afford. ala james earl jones. it was disappointing that they felt the need to quash the dreams of a tweed jacket nerd. super fun. Hippycat
This was my fifth and the best Wilco show I've seen. Fourth for my girlfriend, who earlier this week had a death in the family, so this was a perfectly tremendous distraction that I think really helped take her mind off some of the crap she's having to deal with at the moment. I doubt we'll ever hear Hate It Hear the same way as I use to. It totally brought her to tears. The pit floor shaking was unreal! It was awesome. Really the whole expereince was incredible. From flying right through customs and only spending a few minutes in tunnel traffic (I didn't even think that was possible anymore), to getting great parking, a nice table at Hockey Town and some excellent munchies and drinks, to meeting up with some friends who were Wilco fans but virgins at seeing the band live. We wound up having great seats (bought through the pre-sale) in the 3rd row of the pit. And then the band freaking rocked! And we even both really liked Andrew Bird too. Earlier this year we caught the band in Toronto and while I liked Low, my girlfriend didn't. But this time we both agreed that Andrew was pretty damn cool. I can totally see why they hooked up with him. Highlights? Hmmm, actually the whole damn thing! At no part was it just OK. It was ALL great! Thank you Wilco.
cryptique
How filled was the place? Half capacity? 3/4? I knew that there were a bunch of tickets still up prior to the show.I was down front so I can't say for sure, but it looked like the main floor was pretty full. The balcony looked a bit sparse, though. Not a bad showing for the Fox, I think.

ArtOfficial
Someone mentioned Via Chicago being exceptionally emotional, and I agree. It sounded like Jeff was getting homesick, and he really played his heart out on that song. Gotta love it.

IATTBYB
I better get a LOT of new clients out of the seminar that I spoke at last night because that set list is/was AMAZING. I can't imagine a better group of songs to close a show than what was included in the second encore. Consider this a renewal of my request for another Wilco show in or near SW Michigan real soon. jimmy bobby
Amazing show.Wilcotastic!!Loved that Andrew Bird played four songs with Wilco last night!!The real question is, was there a taper there last night? Did anyone see someone taping the show?I didn't notice anyone. Didn't notice anyone in the audience in East Lansing last year either. What's the deal. No tapers in Metro-Detroit anymore.
