Would have been pretty funny if it was Cleveland OH, sucky baseball fans and all, but it's Cleveland UK.

Wonder if they have sucky Cricket fans?

Middlesborough (right next door to Cleveland) was voted the worst place in the country to live last week. That whole area all around it is hardly the Red Rose of England. It scored very highly on crime - nothing to do with illegal downloading though, i don't think.

As for potential nastiness resulting from this, I'm sort of hoping for the "safety in numbers" effect. There were SO many Oink users, and I was a bit player among that throng. If they go after people based on level of use, they'd take quite a long time to get around to me, if they ever did.

Probably fooling myself, but that's the direction my thoughts are going...

this is actually, okay thinking on your part. Then can send all the e-mails they want, but if they want to find ownership on modems and stuff, they have to track IPs. Luckily, most big ISPs don't readily release information about their paying customers. However, people on public networks might want to beware. OSU had something like this happen a while back and the individual was reprimanded by NBC or some nonsense(for downloading The Office).

Why would you say that? I thought they usually like to go after the downloaders. Makes better press.

nah, usually the people who were sharing stuff are the first they go after.

like that case that the RIAA won up here in Duluth, it wasn't that she downloaded it, she supposedly ripped and shared 1700+ songs herself.

In a similar vein... I've checked over everything I've seeded. With just one exception, all of the stuff I put up there was either from a non-RIAA label, out of print, or a vinyl rip. Hopefully, my hatred of mainstream music will save me.

What are we going to do?! I'm not going back to buying an album without hearing it first!

with as many labels/bands streaming a lot of releases and/or offering sample tracks to garner buzz prior to it's official street date...to say you don't have as many opportunities to make more educated decisions on what you actually go out and buy is kind of being a touch dramatic.

i don't want to see anybody get in trouble and all, but i'm not at all surprised this has happened. to say that there aren't huge numbers of folks abusing file-sharing resources like this seems crazy. several thousand bad apples...
