What bar are people going to hang out at before the show? Any recommendations? I'm so excited!

the big city tap is essentially on the corner kitty-corner to the vic, and there's trader todd's just a bit north of belmont on sheffield. i dispise trader todd's, i think, and but the big city tap is okay. there's also a place just south of the vic, i think on the corner of sheffield and briar that's alright.

i just plan on going to a bar in which i can walk outside every half hour of so and see what the line is looking like. i'll probably wind up at the big city tap.

i have this seemingly stupid tradition of wearing a bright green phish shirt to every concert i go to, so if you see me, feel free to say hi.

The Kirkwood has become my pub of choice (although I love Vaughn's -- I just stopped going there because it's small and the smoke killed me). It's only 3 blocks south of the Vic, and you can actually see the line forming.

nice, thanks for the advice. i've been to this place a few times and enjoy it. i just didn't think you'd be able to see the line. oh man, an order of fried mac n cheese, a couple of beers, and then jeff solo. sounds like a great saturday night!

Are you talking about the corner of Sheffield and Barry? If so the place you are talking about is Matilda's and i've heard good things about it but ive never been. Theres also a new place a little further south down Sheffield called The Bottle or something like that, its where Cherry Red used to be, that might be worth checking out. I sadly wont be attending this year (last years show was absolutely amazing) just dont have the dough this time around. Enjoy im sure it will be great and hopefully i can catch a recording or something.

Information from earlier in this thread:

Hi guys......ok, here's the info.......Jeff will play a solo show at the Vic in Chicago. It's located at 3145 N. Sheffield. It's an 18+ show on Saturday January 26, 2008. It starts at 8pm and doors are at 7. The show is a benefit for scholarships at our kids' school. The tickets are $100. You can buy them at the Vic box office where you will pay no service charge but you must have cash, or you can buy them at Ticketmaster outlets or Ticketmaster online. The Vic box office is open Monday through Friday from noon to 6pm. The tickets go on sale TOMORROW December 6th at noon.

This show was really fun last year. It really was like a giant living room concert. He (I) took requests from the line before the show.

I hope to see you guys there.

Thanks!!!

srmt

Matilda's is just south of the Vic (at Sheffield and Barry) and is one of my favorite bars in the city! Really great atmosphere, KILLER jukebox, which is updated pretty regularly, and friendly staff comprised mostly of music lovers. It's hard to describe the decor, kitschy / offbeat / quirky, but definitely interesting. You guys should definitely check it out if you've never been, I find it much more interesting than Big City Tap or Kirkwood or any other bars in close proximity to the Vic. I'll be there for sure prior to the show, for at least one Bud. Just my humble opinion. In any event, I'm starting to get REALLY excited, this should be an amazing show!

Again, I know this isn't the ticket forum, but I just logged on to ticketbastard.com and they have re-released tix! So, if you are looking for tix, jump on there asap and snag them! Good luck!

or buy them from edie as she mention just above that she has a couple...

Anybody familiar with Art of Pizza or Erwin? Guy's gotta eat.

i've heard good things about Art of Pizza from others. the metromix reviews were, overall, pretty good, although there were a few "this place blows" kind of reviews.

if you want pizza, i highly recommend Pat's Pizza (which used to be right across the street from the Vic but is now at 2679 N. Lincoln). fucking great.

Thanks - what would that be - 10 to 15 minute walk to Vic?

however fast you can walk 5/8 of a mile... 10 minutes i assume. with snow and shit on the ground, maybe 15 minutes.

I live right around the corner from the Vic, and walk to Pat's a lot. It's about a 15-minute walk. From Pat's, walk up Seminary (north) to Wellington (at Diversey Seminary continues a little to the West), take a right (east) on Wellington, and take a left (north) on Sheffield up to the Vic.

God, I love Pat's.
