Preferred B
Oh geez. Way too close to home; familiar territory. Not that anywhere this happens is ever worse than any other place.
Twisted Acres
CNN says that the gunman is dead... no other details at the moment
squarewave
The local news in Rockford is reporting cell phone towers are way past max capacity, if you are attempting to reach anyone in Dekalb, use a landline, or try IM or email. What could cause these kids to open fire on their classmates??
Twisted Acres
They're now saying that of the 15 or so arriving at hospital, 3 or 4 have wounds to the head.
LouieB
Strangely enough I was just there two days ago (Tuesday) taking a campus tour, since Brother Ray is interesting in going there. Go figure. NIU is in DeKalb, site of the Otto's shows from a few years back, to give this a Wilco slant. LouieB
squarewave
It was NIU, Cole Hall, Room 101, Intro to Ocean Science, Professor Peterson.

roryfour
DeKalb is my hometown. A sad day, my heart goes out to all the people there and their families. Most everyone I know have been accounted for, thankfully. I'm just letting this all soak in. There have been growing tensions on campus lately. I'm waiting to see more information about the motive for this.
tugmoose
This is becoming a monthly occurrence. Don't know what to do about it, but guns aren't helping.

virtualreason
This hits WAY too close to home, both as a college student in Madison, and one that studies atmospheric and oceanic sciences. I've been talking with some people about this and, sadly, it's one of those things that we have to learn to live with (along with the threat of nuclear war and ebola). Just this morning I was zoning out during a lecture, and the thought crossed my mind, "What would I do if someone came in here and started shooting?" It's a terrifying notion, it really is. All you can hope for is that families and friends will stop people from doing this; take the time to ask someone what's wrong instead of thinking things will sort themselves out. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone at, around, associated with NIU.
bobbob1313
A friend of mine (Not a student there) was on campus at the time. He's fine, thankfully, but I knew he lived up there so I imed him immediately when I heard about this.
tugmoose
5 victims dead.
Guest Speed Racer
This reminds me a lot of the elementary/middle/high school shooting 'fad' of the late '90's. This is, what, the third or fourth university shooting since April? This is just horrible. This is the third time in a year, I think, that I've used Facebook to make sure that friends and acquaintances were alright.
