I'm drawing a blank on bands from Nashville besides local bands that didn't really go anywhere. :mellow

How about:

Guster

Or, if you have yet to hear

Joe Pisapia (who is also a part-time member of Guster)

you really need to get on the ball!

Texas baby! You can also take credit for Jerry Jeff Walker. While originally from Onieda, NY, he made his mark musically once he migrated to TX.

Dude it's insane. That's just off the top of my head. Also Ben Kweller, Secret Machines, Don Henley, Lyle Lovett, Reverend Horton Heat, Steve Miller, Michelle Shocked, Lucinda Williams, Old 97's, American Analog Set, Edie Brickell, Eisley, Okkervil River ... freakin' Beyonce Knowles and Kelly Clarkson for cryin' out loud!

They started as a band @ Tufts University in Medford, MA.

Are they Nashville-based now or is it just Pisapia?

I'm pretty sure Okkervil River is originally from New Hampshire.

Favorite band from my town: Uncle Tupelo

From my state: Wilco

I'm glad I didn't have to answer this question nine months ago, when I still lived in Missouri. I guess the obvious one there would be Chuck Berry. I loved The Rainmakers from Kansas City back in the day. And, of course, The Bottlerockets.

They all pale in comparison to the true musical genius that came from Missouri. I give you ... The Ozark Mountain Daredevils!

I couldn't come up with many either. (Nelly?)

Gene Clark (b. Tipton, MO)

Nadine

Son Volt (this counts, right?)

Fontella Bass

Get Up Kids (shut up. I used to like these guys.)

The Misfits

Yeah, that's what I was gonna say. I know there's more good artists from Jersey that haven't been mentioned. There has to be.

And, none of you Chi-town folks mention Curtis Mayfield? Shame.
