The first song at your wedding?

Recommended Posts

My wife is so cool.

We both agreed on:

"You're the One For Me"

by Jonathan Richman

If you didn't want me you shouldn't have been born

That started all the trouble now the damage been done

You never should have been born

Cuz now you're the one for me

And if you didn't want me to follow you around

You never should have showed up around my town

You never should have come to town

Cuz now you're the one for me

And it's too late cuz now you're stuck with me

Better give up, it's me you choose

I say "ha ha ha ha, it's me, you lose."

It's to late cuz now my minds is set

You better give up because i won't forget

That could never never be

Well you're the one for me

Oh baby, oh honey

Well it's too late

You're the one for me

If you didn't want me you shouldn't have been born

And we never should have met that morn

We never should have met

Cuz now you're the one for me

And if you didn't want me to want you this way

Well you never should have seen my rock n roll band play

You never should have seen the lovers play

Cuz now you're the one for me.

And it's too late cuz now you're stuck with me

Better give up, it's me you choose

I say "ha ha ha ha, it's me, you lose."

It's to late cuz now my minds is set

You better give up because i won't forget

That could never never be

Well you're the one for me

Oh babe, oh honey

It's just too late

You're the one for me

You're the one for me

You're the one, you're the one

You're the one, it's too late

You're the one

How about you?

The acoustic version of "Everlong" by The Foo.. Yeah, I'm not a big Foo fan, but that's just a great song acoustically... My wedding was great.. very small.. And for our honeymoon, we drove across the country to Los Angeles.. good times.. good times..

Might I recommend "All the Right Reasons" by the Jayhawks? I was just discussing this topic with friends that are getting married in June.

Interesting choice...we are having a live band so they will have to figure out how to play whatever song we choice. My fiance will let me choose but she was hoping I don't pick something obscure to the avarage person! If it was "Really" up to me I would pick I'm the Man Who Loves You.... :stunned

We got married in '04.

We had a band for the ceremony, consisting of my future bro-in-law (guitar), and three other friends (mandolin, pedal steel, and guitar). Before the ceremony and while my wife walked in they played instrumental versions of Innocence Mission ( That Was Another Country and Everything Is Different Now). During the registry signing they did an amazing version of Bruce Cockburn's "Live On My Mind", with all four guys switching off vocals (and the pedal steel player was great, his name is Bill Western, who has played with Nathan and other bands around here).

We walked out to the Lemonheads "Into Your Arms".

We had Marvin Gaye and Tammi Tarrell 'You're All I Need To Get By' closely followed by 'Oh My Sweet Carolina' by Ryan Adams.

My wife and I fled the state of Massachusetts and all the wedding plans and suggestions and choices our families were just beginning to foist on us, choosing instead to elope in Bar Harbor, ME

We danced to "Slow Dancing" by U2. The singer and other guitar player from my high school / college band performed for us. When the guitar player got married, we sang the song at his reception. Finally, after many fiancees and many years, the singer got married and we played it at his reception. The circle is now complete.

The rest of the time we had a fingerstyle guitar player named Larry Pattis perform. He's really good if you like that sort of thing.

We got married outdoors in the mountains. We had a guitar and a mandolin guy playing a medley of GD and Folk tunes for the ceremony and a fairly popular Bluegrass band for the reception. I don't recall a first tune, just lots of good music in general.

Ok this was 11 years ago so please, not too many harsh comments (although I still like the song). "Tonight" by David Bowie and Tina Turner. We had a soul, fun, wedding band who for the most parts played atrocious "party" songs. But I must say, they absolutely nailed this one.

My favorite wedding reception band was a klezmer band, and I couldn't name but two songs: Have Nagila and the Chicken Dance song. We did all kinds of crazy dancing that night.

We didn't have music at our wedding, since we basically got hitched during a Labor Day picnic.
