Same song, two versions, same album

Recommended Posts

I don't know why I find this so fascinating, but can anyone point me in the direction of things like:

Wilco - Outtasite (Outta mind)/Outta Mind (Outta Sight)

Matthew Sweet - The Ugly Truth/Ugly Truth Rock

(honorable mention)

Beatles - Revolution/Revolution 1 (not same album, but recorded very near each other, and fundamentally the same song. Revolution 9 wouldn't count)

Alternate takes as bonus material don't count.

TIA

springsteen was initially going to open and close "born to run" with two different takes of "thunder road," but damn if it isn't perfect the way it is.

OP didn't say "same artist", so...

John Hartford's Aeroplane opens for a fragment of "Turn Your Radio On" and closes witht he whole song. It is a neat concept, it is suppossed to be like you are listening to the radio and waiting for that one special song you only caught a snippet of to come back on. He even does a radiospot part way through. Top notch album by the way.

Right. I thought about this, but must have forgot to put it down.

Sepultura, "Attitude"/ Soulfly, "The Song Remains Insane". Both written by Max Cavalera; almost the exact same song, only one is sped up. Woops, you said same album, oh well, I already typed it, deal with it. :)

Wilco, "This Is New"/"This Is New (The Explanation)". Yes?

Disregarding your stipulation of same album...

"Stickman" (unreleased) and "Stickman" (unreleased) by Elliott Smith

oh and also

"Everything's OK" (unreleased) and "Pretty Mary K" (New Moon) by Elliott Smith

All four songs are great studio versions. Not exactly what you were looking for, but the only thing I could think of.
