(Sep 9th both) And these from the Calexico MySpace: Joey Burns giving Kyle Gass of Tenacious D a lesson in Spanish guitar: Joey with Kyle again doing a song about hot sauce: http://myspacetv.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=...ideoid=38004936 And finally, thanks for being good sports and not crucifying me for my Calexico geekdom. Clouds of Fluff
Anyone else listening to this? Thoughts?
Dr. Steve Brule
On first listen, I'm not too excited. I loved Feast of Wire, and I loved Garden Ruin which was a slight departure into a more radio friendliness. Dust seems a little too worst of both worlds to me, but we'll see if I change my mind. It's mellow. I do love the free air freshener though.
LouieB
Garden Ruin was only so so to my ears. I wish they would return to the southwest.... LouieB
Clouds of Fluff
Dust seems a little too worst of both worlds to me... LOL I had the opposite reaction...I'm hearing the best of both worlds. I dunno Louie, I think they have visited the southwest (and beyond) a bit more on this one. edit: "Slowness" w/ Pieta Brown.
Prose
I put on Carried to Dust today on my computer, when it came up on Itunes the genre was "unclassifiable". Af itting description to their musoc. Funny too!
LouieB
I dunno Louie, I think they have visited the southwest (and beyond) a bit more on this one. Well I like them alot so I will definitely pick it up in the not too too distant future. LouieB
Wendy
Definitely. This is beautiful. Lou, are you going to the free Pritzger show in 2 weeks? I think it's at 6:00 p.m. Thu Sep

Wendy
you'll get tickets, i doubt the show even sells out Pitchfork hit the nail on the head on their review and the 8.3 is right-on. And Kyle, you're right. They probably won't sell out. You know, I have read several interviews in the past and again with "Carried To Dust" PR where Joey Burns mentions Calexico is much more popular in Europe than US. I'm not sure why this happens. What is it about European music fans that makes them appreciate Calexico more than US? They're playing at The Metro in November with Bowerbirds and I might be more tempted to see a full headling show to hear more of "Carried To Dust" than the free show at Pritzger in 2 weeks. I'm not sure how long they get to play as they are sharing the bill with another band.

Germans really like the South West would be another simple-minded reason. Touring costs in relation to the number of people who see the concerts would be another. Think North Americans bands generally love Europe and look favourably on a Hamburg-Koln-Baden-Baden jaunt instead of a Lethbridge-Missoula-Salt Lake City van-that-smells-like-dude trip. deepseacatfish
Germans really like the South West would be another simple-minded reason.Yep. Germans are a little obsessed with cowboy culture and the American west. Well, glad I'll have no trouble getting tickets, Calexico is one of the best bands I've seen live. Wendy
Another NPR video installment from Joey Burns & John Convertino in Tucson. 8 min. "Red Blooms" and "Writer's Minor Holiday" Nice to hear more from John Convertino. It's usually Joey doing the talking. http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2008/09/...o_part_two.html
SeattleC
Calexio played the Moore Theater tonight in Seattle, after playing in Chicago last night, and New York the night before that. How in the hell do that pull that off? In style, apparently....This was far and away the best Calexico show of the now five that I've seen. They opened with Franks Tavern, starting out requesting falsetto singing from the crowd, before they even really launched into it. It got the crowded going fast. John Convertino really blew me away tonight. In particular, his drumming on 'Not Even Stevie Nicks' was some of the best I've heard live over the last many years. I don't have a setlist, but I do have a few photos:

It's also your only time to see Calexico tour with that terrorist organization The ACORN. That just won't happen again.
