Wow, excellent choices as well. I hadn't even thought of the Crowes or the Mermaid Avenue albums.

For the aching delivery alone.

Absolutely. In other hands, the earnestness of this song might border on trite, but this song just kills me.

"But the clouds never hung so low before"

"And the dawn don't rescue me no more"

It must be totally in the delivery, but those lines just slay me.

otherwise, off the top of my head

"Box of Rain" and "Brokedown Palace" by the G f'n D

"Lonely 1" and pre-drone "Less Thank You Think" by teh Wilcos

many more I can't think of right now

"End of Love" was one of my first thoughts too!

"I See a Darkness" -Bonnie Prince Billy

"Elizabeth on the Bathroom Floor" and "I'm Going to Stop Pretending That I Didn't Break Your Heart" -Eels

Also, lots of old Smiths and Cure songs.

"Hot Burrito #1 (I'm Your Toy)" - Flying Burrito Brothers

"For No One" - The Beatles

"Teach Your Children" - Crosby, Stills, and Nash

"Dress Blues" - Jason Isbell

"Dancing Partner" - Joe Pisapia

Each of those songs can totally destroy me at any given moment.

It's funny how you realize how amazingly beautiful and cathartic music is sometimes. A little turn of phrase, a mellow guitar tone, a heartfelt vocal. Sometimes it just hits you.

Lost My Driving Wheel.....Cowboy Junkies

Something's Always Wrong....Toad The Wet Sprocket

Oh yeah, how could I forget The Cure?

Homesick

"And my eyes are bursting hearts

In a blood-stained sky"

A Thousand Hours

"For how much longer can I howl into this wind?

For how much longer

Can I cry like this?

A thousand wasted hours a day

Just to feel my heart for a second

A thousand hours just thrown away

Just to feel my heart for a second"

Trust

"there's no one left in the world

that i can hold onto

there is really no one left at all"

and the absolute killer for me:

To Wish Impossible Things

"it was the sweetness of your skin

it was the hope of all we might have been

that filled me with the hope to wish

impossible things

to wish impossible things

but now the sun shines cold

and all the sky is grey

the stars are dimmed by clouds and tears

and all i wish

is gone away"
