Guest Jules
Like many college students, this was pretty much a staple during those years. It cost about $4-5/12-pack, IIRC, in the mid-late 80s. Not only was it putrid tasting, but it was impossible to get cold. It seemingly always tasted warm and flat.Pfft. Natural Light = $5.99/CASE!
cryptique
Pfft. Natural Light = $5.99/CASE!Dubuque Star longnecks were $5/case at the local Food 4 Less, and sometimes on sale for less, if I recall correctly. It wasn't horrible beer, either. Way better than Milwaukee's Best and all the other cheap swill.

EL the Famous
i just had 3 bad beer flashbacks to college while catching up w/ this thread. our 'cheap case of beer' was keystone light...it was so watered down, it had no taste. it'll still get you drunk. unfortunately, most of the bars where i went to school had Natty Light on tap...*shudder*
uncool2pillow
Keystone was a standby cheap beer in college. I went to college in NE Iowa, near Wisconsin, so Rhinelander and Huber (brewed by the same brewery, I just discovered) were also regulars. $10/case ain't bad!

Doug C
as long as guinness stays irish, all is well with my beer universe. It depends what you're drinking. Gunness Extra Stout sold in North America has been brewed in Canada by Labatt's and Moosehead for years.
mountain bed
i'd splurge on mickey's big mouths and/or little kings.Oh yeah, teh Cincinnati River Sludge! Man we used to go through that stuff. When I first turned 21 a local bar had Little Kings promotion nights - t-shirts, posters, etc. 3 LKs for a buck - you could go uptown with a ten dollar bill and just get hammered. Guinness is brewed in several places and the recipes are different, too.
