lost highway
I hope for something along the lines of AGIB. SBS seriously lacked the density and power of the last few albums. Say what you will, but SBS and AM battle it out for the low spot in Wilco albums. Maybe so, but SBS wins (losthighway winces expecting beer bottle to fly towards his head). keeprighton2
It's funny that Tweedy claims he currently "hates" all of Wilco's previous albums, when the new songs sound exactly like outtakes from SBS. It's because he's lost his edge. The previous albums were mostly better than SBS. So sounds like next one will be as bland as SBS. Opens up the argument about the best music coming from dark places, rather than happy ones. Right now in his life, happy = bland, right? When he was down he turned out corker after corker. Gobias Industries
The interviewer clearly dropped the ball. After that statement, the appropriate follow-up would have been to ask JT to rank the albums. AMBTSTYHFAGIBSBS
sweetheart-mine
I'm looking forward to the new record and could care less if it didn't meet someone else's expectations.same here, and i'm especially excited because, having "discovered" tweedy and wilco in the summer of 2007, i've never had the experience of anticipating a new album from them. i've loved almost everything -- including SBS, most definitely -- so disappointment is very unlikely. can't wait, can't wait. Sparky speaks
AM and SBS are two of my favorite Wilco albums.....Give me a few more songs like Box Full of Letters, Casino Queen, Pick Up the Change, Should've Been in Love, Passenger Side, Impossible Germany, Hate It Here, Walken, Side With the Seeds, SBS any day......I admit I like songs with less noise.......AGIB took along time for me to get into......If it wasn't for some of Jeff's solo versions of some of those songs I still might not like it......Some songs actually give me a headache, which I understand Jeff wanted to accomplish with a few of those songs.....I'll gladly take son of SBS....... mybenito
Jeff Tweedy: "But as something that feels artistically in keeping with who I am today, I think that they (the past albums) are inevitably going to fall short of that as time goes on. I mean, they just don't continue to mean the same things to me, and a new record is kind of where it's at." I'm wondering who is the Jeff Today? He's sober, healthier, maybe more introspective, likes the current band situation. I don't know the guy but when I read that I felt super optimistic about the new album. His music is already artisticly deep, if he keeps digging I feel the songs will just get better and better. I also like it when he says "they just don't continue to mean the same things to me." Because I think his music is so open to interpretation that the songs rarley mean the same thing to me every time I listen. The meanings change and adapt to my current state of mind. Jesusetc84
*DISCLAIMER: I DON'T FEEL LIKE SAYING IN MY OPINION AFTER EVERY SENTENCE...SO JUST PRETEND IT'S THERE* The new songs are all right...I honestly think Jeff may have run the well dry though; Being There, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born...all 4-5 star albums. Sky Blue Sky shows them becoming dangerously irrelevant....and maybe it was time...that level of artistic success, 4 great albums in a row (plus the Mermaid Avenues, which, even though Woody wrote the lyrics, Jeff still provided all those melodies), maybe he's just blown his metaphorical load? Last year, In Rainbows is really what solidified for me how dissapointing Sky Blue Sky was. Radiohead and Wilco are my two favorite bands of the past 10-15 years, and they've always been neck and neck until last year, where Radiohead put out a great record, my personal favorite of the year, and Wilco put out their first record since A.M. that I wouldn't even put in my top 20 of the year. THESE ARE ALL OPINIONS OF COURSE...NO REASON TO QUOTE AND BE ANGRY. But I just feel let down by Jeff and co. I hope they can get their edge back. That being said, this album seems like it will be the first wilco record ever to sound exactly like it's predecessor (judging by early test runs of songs.)

Jesusetc84
Just in the interest of fairness - Jay Bennett wrote the melody for California Stars. Okay first, I have to say I love your avatar. Second, that's true. I guess I just meant they are still Wilco's songs. For example, Elton John only wrote the music to Your Song, not the lyrics. To me, it's still an Elton John song.

Jesusetc84
Elton has rarely contributed to lyrics to any of his songs, it's mainly Bernie Taupin. Which really doesn't disprove my point. Elton writes the music and performs it; therefore people consider them his songs. I have the same feeling about the Mermaid Avenue stuff; those songs are Billy Bragg's and Wilco's respectively. jimtweedy1977
could we see appearances by the Total Pros and Andrew Bird on the next record? possibly, it wouldn't be the first time that Wilco has brought in other musicians. i feel that both Andrew and Total Pros have brought another kind of energy to Wilco shows, not better or more positive, just a different feel and you could feel the band respond favorably to their appearances. in the end, i suppose we'll see what happens. but the possibility of their inclusion in the creative process would make me happy.
