fatheadfred
In what respect did we get our shit together after 9/11? By waving the flag a lot? Our response to it was passively allow our own freedoms to be curtailed, as well as a whole plethora of other reforms that have nothing to do with terrorism under the guise of protecting us after 9/11, and to attack a country that had nothing to do with the attack on us without really taking of the people who did attack us. That's not a nation with it's shit together, sorry. And it took a bit of time to get fighters in the sky. And Bush didn't move from the classroom, cuz he didn't want to frighten 30 kids? K We bought flags from China. Does that count?

bobbob1313
i got that, but bobob wasn't.We were pretty good at getting our shit together after 9/11. We just let ourselves be tricked into thinking we had other people's shit to get together as well. I thought it was kind of clear.

bobbob1313
I think if you remember back to the way things were following the attacks, most people had no idea what to do with themselves, or how to help. That idea probably seemed as good as any...
JUDE
With that said, in the days and weeks following the attack, the nations malls where fat with shoppers bearing determined, vigilant looks on their faces, eager as they were to strike back at the terrorists. Rally against capitalism! Actually I don't think people shopping, trying to keep our consumer economy going after an attack on arguably our biggest financial center is such a bad thing. EL the Famous
a couple of you seem hell-bent on bleeding the line between the response from the people of the U.S. and it's government. i realize it's cool to have a hard-on for bashing the current administration and i would definitely agree that they bastardized any legitimate sense of patriotism/community into something ugly...but c'mon, in the context of how the american people would/could react to an attack on american soil, it serves to show we can unite in a time of need. i get it, bush sucks and all american people (except for j.nick) are too fat/stupid to take care of themselves. i agree on the first point, but find myself much more optimistic on the second as a whole. jesus. Party @ the Moontower
Who got their shit together? Tell that line to the dead people of Katrina, which now can now listed @ 4,081 DEAD people. The ones that made it, some are still waiting for help. Based on new death information, we can add the previous toll of 1,723 to the new post-Katrina figure of 2,358 to posit a new unofficial death toll of 4,081. Possible causes of the excess deaths in 2006 include stress, suicide, pollution, contamination, impoverishment and the devastation of the heath sector after Katrina. For instance, the suicide rate tripled in the first 10 months after Katrina.

Not quite as shocking as not getting off his ass when informed of 9/11, but hey, he knew he wasn't in control anyway. Ol' Dick was manning the operation from his dungeon at Casa de Blanco. Party @ the Moontower
Dead toll from 911 as of today, from the government who was susposed to protect us, and susposedly does now... 2,974 dead from 911 4,076 Americans dead because we sent them to invade Iraq for a crime Iraq did not commit. Although, this # does not count those that kill themself, or die after they get home.1,255,026 Iraqis dead for oil, power, money, etc....or 911, something they had no part in?
