Hold on just one damn minute...

I just thought it was interesting from a historical perspective. Calm down.

My internet skills must be diminishing...I found it interesting also. As a political scientist, I find these sort of things worthy.

I am probably just feeling a bit cranky today...not much sleep last night and no breakfast.

Plus...see my above response to Brother Teddy.

I take it those images are the real deal? That's pretty incredible.

I find it intersting that, although many thought that no way would a black man be elected President, that Obama did get elected....in large part BECAUSE of the color of his skin.

Yes, the fact that Bush had a 25 percent approval rating and that the economy took a nose-dive were gigantic factors, but getting 95 percent of the African-American vote plus a huge number of white guilt votes was maybe equal factors in Obama's "overwhelming" win.

I think 'white guilt votes' are as much of a chimera as the 'Bradley affect'. Obama ran the best organized, best funded, most on point Political campaing in the history of the world. Even if he doesn't prove to affect the social and political change that is desired, he has changed the face of politcal campaigns forever.

Some people voted for him because they thought he was the best candidate.

Yes. I am quite aware of that.

But this country is basically split down the middle, and getting 95 percent of a 13 percent demographic is HUGE.

Not to mention probably at least 1 or 2 percent of white people who understandably feel it's time that America is led by a man of color.

So we could say that McCain got his votes for the very reason that he is white? Or more correctly he got a lot of votes because he was not black? Face it McCain was not nor has he ever been a favorite of the right, however he recieved a respectable % of the vote, far more than he should have won considering where he supposedly stands in relation to the rest of his party. So I have to infer that he got many of his votes out of white fears of letting a black man run the country. Seems like the only feasible reason for his performance. It does appear that he got the old white guy vote so I must be right.

Economy - takes historic drop.

War - most people hate it and want us out.

Bush's approval rating - 25 percent.

TV personalities ripped Bush a new a-hole every night. SNL couldn't have been more lopsided.

The Oprah factor.

Congress approval rating - about 15 percent.

Blacks voted 95 percent for Obama.

Republican votes were down 2 percent this election.

Democrat vote was up 3 percent.

McCain pissed off many Conservatives....many decided to stay home on election day.

Hispanics...who voted 44-44 last election, voted about 62-32 against McCain...despite McCain being much on their side.

White guilt voters. There are TONS of squishy white voters who feel all tingly inside because they voted for a man of color....deny it all you want, but it's true. I know some of these people.

All of these are factors.

Go ahead and believe Obama won simply "because he was the best candidate". I don't.

jacob did you run out and get your gun yet? The scary black man is taking office in 69 days.

Har-dee-har-har. :yay

I've posted on this board that I DO think it's cool America finally got a non white guy in office.

I love this Morrissey line:

In America, The land of the free, they said, And of opportunity, In a just and a truthful way

But where the president, Is never black, female or gay, And until that day

You've got nothing to say to me, To help me believe

I think America will be taken more seriously by many world-wide, which most would think is a good thing.

I'm really not trying to be sour grapes. But I seriously believe that any Democrat with a pulse, communication skills and could recite the word "change" over and over was going to win. Frankly, with all the negativity towards Bush/Republicans and the scary economy news, it's amazing Obama didn't win by 20 percent.

Have you seen another candidate with more presence on the internet, whether it's their official site, Facebook, youtube, Flickr, etc?

Have you seen another candidate with as many murals, posters, sitckers, buttons, signs, etc?

Have you seen another candidate draw upwards of 200K people at a rally outside the US and probably close to that at rallies in the US?

Have you seen another candidate move people to tears?

Have you seen another candidate inspire so many people to get off their asses and do something constructive for their country?

I'm sure he was only elected because he was a black guy.

I don't know why I'm jumping into this. This election is SOOO last week, but....

If 95% of African-Americans voted for Obama, how does that compare with how that population votes in any old election. My understand was African-Americans vote Dem in lopsided numbers every election, not just when a black guy is running. Let's not forget that Jesse Jackson and Alan Keyes have run for President and didn't even come close. I'm sure turn-out among African-Americans was up, but that to me would not indicate to me that he was elected (let alone elected in a Bush-Dukakis-like landslide) because he was black. It seems ironic to me that there is far more of this discussion post-election. Is it the GOP grasping at straws? If so, take a look in the mirror. Put up someone that takes you back to your Goldwater/Lincoln roots and ignore the James Dobsons of the country and you'll do better... at least with me!

So then his election wasn't because of his race, but because of his party affiliation and message?

Historically the black vote has gone pretty heavily republican so they only switched to vote Obama this year. Had they followed historical voting patterns McCain would have won in a landslide. They'll regret it in the long run when they realize he's an America hating, commie loving, terrorist pallin, socialist, islamo-fascist, black liberation chritstian church attending antichrist muslim.
