Analogman
So far, the two songs that I seemed to notice the most are Middle Cyclone, and Magpie To The Morning.
solace
I gave this a proper listen last night on the stereo (not computer speakers) with a few martinis and it really clicked. The nuance of the songs really starts to register after a few listens. I was afraid this record would be like Sky Blue Sky for me. I don't dislike it but it just never really connected for me, and the songs never really distinguished themselves. It's tough to make a very cohesive record, because the danger is the songs sound too much alike. But when it's done right as in Blood on the Tracks it gets pretty close to perfection. I think this record is in the territory of done right. It's hard to say where it will place in her catalog for me. It reminds of the Malkmus record last year in that nothing blew me away off the bat but it just stayed in my rotation all year and actually ended up being my favorite record of the year yeah, it's slowly sinking it's claws in with me as well. but your'e SO right... the problem with very consistent albums, is that the songs don't distinguish themselves from the next is as you said. so maybe more consistent than the last 2 albums (although i don't agree with that just yet), but certainly not the highs of either for me. at this point there's no song on here yet that i love as much as Star Witness, Deep Red Bells, Outro With Bees, Hold On Hold On, Tightly, Look For Me, I Wish I Was The Moon, John Saw That Number, or Maybe Sparrow. it's def going to be a late night/chill out listen for me i can already tell

Three dollars and 63 cents
This is a great Saturday morning chill out album. And my cat is loving the last track
Maggie
Has anyone found a good deal as far as pre-ordering online? I see that insound.com is offering a poster, but they're also charging $17+ dollars for the CD (and I don't really need a poster anyway). There are no record stores within a reasonable distance of my home and I'm tired of giving my money to Best Buy!
Analogman
I know what you mean. Amazon has it for 9.99 - of course, they are going to get you with the S&H.

I'll probably do amazon and buy a couple other things to bump it up to $25 for the free shipping. They really know how to get me - I swear half my income goes to amazon.com. I'm still gonna hold off a few more days and see if a good deal comes up from an independent store just in case . . .
Analogman
If I had one of those, I would buy it there.
Maggie
When I say I'll buy from an independent store I mean I'll order online from some place 300 miles from where I live. There's NOTHING around here.
SarahC
And my cat is loving the last track My dog likes it too... she seriously freaked out the other day... it was crazy. I left it on for 30secs then turned it off cos I didn't want to hurt her ears

tugmoose
For all us law-abiding, paranoid, clueless souls out there, NPR will be streaming the album starting at midnight tonight. Perfect way to start my Tuesday-Wednesday weekend.
Maggie
Oh I see. Do you live in Red Hill Town? Well, now I feel like I've dug myself into a hole and I'm totally confused (and confusing). That said, I do not live in a shack in the mountains, but in a small town next to an over-developed, fully-commercialized dump full of chain stores, a little less than an hour from the nearest city where you might find a decent record store - just don't ask me where. But thanks again for the amazon info..

Three dollars and 63 cents
I thought that was a U2 reference, but then I figured I was reading too much into it
lost highway
This needs to be owned by me on vinyl. Does that happen?
cryptique
This needs to be owned by me on vinyl. Does that happen?Amazon will let you preorder a "UK LP Pressing" for $28.02. It says it's only 1 disc, but with "Marais La Nuit" I'm not sure how that's possible. Causes me to wonder whether this is really a vinyl listing.

Maggie
Just a joke - I was watching U2 videos this morning. Oh I knew you were just messing with me . . . I just didn't get the reference! Amazon.com is down to $7.99 on the preorder so I've officially purchased my copy. Now I'm debating whether I want to listen to the NPR stream or wait for the CD to arrive.
