bböp
Definitely a different vibe than Burlington, which was to be expected with a seated show. Not that there weren't *a lot* of song requests from the crowd. But anytime you get to hear Dreamer In My Dreams, especially sans PA, counts as a good show as far as I'm concerned... bböp
Oh, and since I didn't post Pronto's setlist last night, here's what they played in NoHo: When I'm on the RocksSay It All NightListen LoverUnexpected VexBiz Dev (a new song)Good Friends Have GoneAll Is Golden Too bad we didn't get some more Jeff-Mike duets but I have a feeling Pronto might have had to split even before Jeff's set was over because, after all, they're playing in Chicago tomorrow night. u2roolz
Amazing! Jeff mentioned in his typical fashion that "hey you guys keep screaming out songs that I played last time I was here!" I thought this was extremely clever and great that he cares to take note of what he did all the way back in 2005. Only 8 songs out of 27 were repeated from that night. That's really nice. I mean you couldn't ask for anything more than being catered to if you went last time. Jeff sounded amazing and so did his guitar. Jeff's banter of the night circled around stories of his Dad. Some of the following aren't 100% exact just what I remember. "My Dad told me this...find a fat girl to marry...that way when you grab her there's always something good there." "My Dad gave me this advice...you don't need to back up when there isn't anywhere to go." "when I was in the studio in New Zealand my phone went off and it was my Dad so I picked up and decided to put it on speaker phone which I regret because my Dad says " I'm Naked!" to a guy that got up in the front row after a song..probably most likely for a beer or bathroom - "hey I'm sorry I think I hurt his feelings about the clapping...i think he left?!" - not sure if anyone got that it was quick but priceless and makes me worried to be that close and have to do nature's call. to a woman up close "hey did you just lift up your shirt?!...oh wait you had one of those weird sweater shirt things..." woman says something yea right..."hey it's happened before...once..." priceless.... Kristofor PS Hope everyone made it safely home. I'm getting tired of these shows out in Western MA. I LOVE it out there, it's just a brutal drive home. Next time I think i'm going to get a hotel. So when Wilco announces June tour dates I hope there's one in Boston proper.
Mick18
The comment about New Zealand was the people dancing. Then some random person in the audience yelled "Fuck New Zealand!" Jeff goes "Fuck New Zealand? I'm about to say something bad. I'm bringing the hate." The "I'm Naked" was from the living room shows they auctioned off for charity. radiowilco
Another great night last night - not quite as good as Burlington in my view - but I am NOT complaining. I was in the second row which was a real treat in the beautiful Calvin Theatre. It was very cool to be able to really watch Jeff's playing and performance from such close range. The Dreamer in my Dreams and Acuff Rose sans the PA was amazing from my spot in Row BB/Seat 112! Highlights for me:Someday, Some Morning, Sometime (sung beautifully)Wait Up (terrific guitar work)Fake Plastic Trees (after watching the YouTube versions from NZ with the Seven Worlds Collide band - this was something I wanted to see. Gorgeous version)Wilco the Song (this tune is totally going to kick ass when the full band starts playing it this spring and summer) Two other bits banter not mentioned above: He announced to the crowd that TMM Management - Wilco's long time management co. - was moving its home base to Northampton on Main St. Jeff invited everybody stop by "and bring your demo tapes." He said, "Just stop in. Tony's a nice guy - not too intense." After he came out for his third encore he noted that Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway asked him to play and sing Fake Plastic Trees while they were all in NZ together for the SWC sessions. Then he mumbled, "not really, I begged them to play it with me." Here's hoping for some Wilco/Radiohead shows some time in the future... Anyway, this has been a nice two day respite from reality. Thanks to Jeff and crew for coming our way.
Louie
Great show lst night. What more can be said. I got tickets real late and was up in the nosebleed section (two rows from the last in the balcony) but the sound was terriffic. Were there any tapers spotted?? Sparky speaks
Great, show.......After watching Pronto, it got me thinking that Wilco should do what CSNY used to do in the old days during concerts. That is, give each member a two or three song set in the middle of the show to show off their own music.......Depending on the song it could be done with the group as a whole or with some combination of members or solo.....Wouldn't it be cool to see Jeff do Acuff Rose at a Wilco show or Mike doing one or two of his Pronto songs backed by the whole band or a couple of John and Pat songs? You get the Idea. It would also give us a three hour show, wouldn't that be great......Sorry I didn't get to meet up with any of you fellow VC'ers........Got stuck for an hour near Middletown, Conn. on I-91.......Had to get off highway and maneuver through back roads just to get to North Hamton by 7:30......Thanks for the set lists and who ever was filming the whole show in front of me in approximately row C or D in the middle could you PM me.......I'd like to talk some business with you ........ perfectecho
excellent show, me and the wife were delighted, Jeff is amazing can i make one comment though: Guy in Row N, Seat 9... Seriously, how can you enjoy a show when you spend 3/4 of it texting your friends or whatnotSeriously, what's the fun in that???? Plus, the room goes dark, it's intimate and quiet and having the lcd screen on his phone glowing in my eye, that's just annoying...
cracked & hooked
Jeff's banter of the night circled around stories of his Dad. Some of the following aren't 100% exact just what I remember.oh man, were your ears full of sandwich?! none of that happened like that! i know it's hard to remember verbatim, but your recollections are like that old operator game - that's how rumors get started! did you hear that jeff's dad was naked in new zealand when he backed up into a topless fan eating a hoagie? i'm definitely paraphrasing here, but i'm confident that i can at least maintain the integrity of the banter. ~ about 25 minutes in, jeff says to a woman in the front row "OH! you're wearing a sweater, a BEIGE sweater! it looked like you had been lifting up your shirt this whole time!" woman: "i'm too old for that!" jeff: "not in this light [you're not]..." then: "i don't want you to feel pressure now that you have to do that." woman: "don't worry..." jeff: "don't worry?!?! excuse me, but it HAS happened. once." (the woman left as soon as the next song started but then came back...) ~ one of jeff's dad's aphorisms: "never back up any further than you have to." quite profound, actually.~ another: "the thing about women is that when you hang them upside down in the shower, they all look alike." jeff then wondered aloud why he choose northampton, massachusetts , of all places, to share that.~ he advised jeff to "marry a woman with some weight on her. that way wherever you grab her you'll always get something good."~ a guy in the audience yelled out, actually mumbled out not very clearly, "your dad and my dad should do lunch." jeff couldn't decipher what he said and replied "is your mouth full of sandwich? ... are they selling hoagies here?"~ he was talking about touring in new zealand and how beautiful it was and how much they loved it. a woman yelled out "fuck new zealand!" jeff: "fuck new zealand? i'm about to say something bad. i'm bringing the hate." then he talked about how the people dancing at their shows were so rhythmically challenged that the band couldn't keep it together and couldn't wait to get out of there - "get me to the airport." someone yelled out "that wouldn't have happened in australia!" jeff: "that's not what new zealand said!" what else? the bit about tony hanging out a shingle on main street in noho was pretty funny. "real friendly guy. stop by anytime." ~ he began the dad bits with a scary story about what his dad used to tell his sister when they would leave her home alone, but i didn't quite get it. ~ the naked dad on the phone story was about his dad calling during one of the living room shows, as previously mentioned. lord, that man gives good banter. i love the quick & funny, especially from the 3rd row where you could pretty much see his wheels turning. i look forward to that as much as anything! when he hadn't said anything 5-6 songs in, i turned to my husband and whispered, jokingly, "do you wanna leave?" the music, of course, was beautiful. amazing to hear him in such full voice on fake plastic trees. dreamer and acuff sans PA were sublime. loved the new stuff. whoo hoo hoo for a shot in the arm, though hearing it acoustic and sitdown makes me feel like i'm gonna bust outta my skin!!! love noho audiences. can't wait for the recording! can't wait for tonight! flickrs! Wendy
links were removed ... sorry Sorry to be a wet blanket, folks, but I have to repeat our oft-stated rule that videos of live Wilco/Tweedy shows are not to be posted on Via Chicago. As the band has always said, they do not allow or condone the videotaping of shows, and if people do so, it could result in the banning of all taping and cameras from shows in the future. Please respect the policy. Thanks,The Management
Mick18
It was such a fun show. I always seem to get the best shows in Northampton. Black Crowes in October and now Jeff. My girlfriend and I really appreciate the wonderful people who sold us their extras. We got separated (her in the balcony and me in the second row), but we both had a blast. He's one of the best all around performers I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. I kept yelling for him to play Say You Miss Me, but alas, he didn't. Maybe some other time. notary
Sorry about that, everyone. I'd never want to jeopardize the very good arrangement the band has regarding taping and photos.
chris b
Hey there, first time poster here.Saw the show last night and was so impressed with how well Jeff can hold a crowd with his singing, playing and bantering. A true showman and a gifted artist. Heard many songs I've not heard live. I'll agree with the poster above that Jeff and Wilco play some great shows in Northampton and now that their manager is setting up shop there maybe we will get another Pines Theatre show this summer!Ended up upgrading my tickets right before the show (9th row!) and hooked up this nice couple outside with my balcony seats. Can't wait for a Wilco tour... Three dollars and 63 cents
Great show last night. I think performance-wise it was even better than the Valentine's Day show, which my first time seeing Jeff solo. It was the first show I ever saw at the Calvin, too, and I was really impressed with the sound quality, at least from where I was. The new songs sounded amazing, and Fake Plastic Trees and Remember the Mountain Bed knocked me on my ass. Honestly, the crowd got old after awhile, though. It was funny at first, especially the hoagie guy, but after awhile I just wanted people to shut up and let him play. I really enjoyed Pronto, too, even though we got there a little late and missed their first two songs. I was worried I'd missed All Is Golden, which is my favorite song from the album, so I was happy when they closed with it WAH, the setlist is posted at the start of this thread, and it's standard practice to wait at least two weeks to ask for a recording. wubbs
Newbie here, I just wanted too thank everyone at the Calvin, The staff, The people at the show, everyone around me was just so great and quite friendly. Ive seen Wilco quite a few times but this was the first time i got too see just Jeff do his thing. Quite an experience and one that i wont soon forget. I swore it could have turned into just a big sing along (which i was secretly hoping for). The print for this show is awesome (although mine wasn't numbered, which was kinda a bummer) but i still cant wait to get that bad boy framed. I'm just glad everyone else seemed too have a good time as well and it would be nice too have them at the pines again this summer. Another unique venue. North Hampton is a very cool town and it always worth the drive. Would love a copy of the show, but did read the rules, which is kinda of a bummer, cause this is something i would like the opportunity too re-live once in a while. Thanks again Mr. Tweedy and North Hampton as well

And you got your Tweedy jokes all wrong. p.s. that crowd was unruly and severely obnoxious. and to the girls next to me screaming for him to play "on and on", I hope they weren't too upset hearing not one SBS song. Ha ha ha. I LOVE Western Mass. Like I said it's a bit taxing to drive home (southern NH) after at such a late hour. Luckily, I had someone with me. Last time I went by myself. I don't know how I used to do it. Man, I'm getting old at 30 already. LOL. I feel bad for the people who came from CT, NY or anywhere else far, far away. I think I messed up some of what Tweedy said because behind me people kept screaming out "She's A Jar!!!" "Kamera!" "Casino Queen!" and than people were shushing those people. Maybe perfectecho was sitting around me. But like I said in my post they weren't 100% accurate, but I think did get the gist of it. It wasn't like I said "So Godzilla came into Chicago and hit Tony over the head with a hoagie and than he ran around naked." When I come on here after Wilco plays a show I like to see the setlist and hear some of what was said. So I tried to do that after Friday's show. It's not like I claimed I bought a transcript of the show. It was from memory which wasn't 100% accurate. Perception is a funny thing. Anyways, I just noticed a couple of people mentioning that while I was coming back on here to see if the show has surfaced. I think more than anything I was surprised because people were right about his stories and I don't know maybe my blood sugar was low. I am hypoglycemic and snuck in some candy to avoid any incident. I also have developed anxiety (maybe from hypoglycemia) over the past couple of years. The reason why I bring this up is because an old co-worker of mine was a diabetic and his blood sugar was low and he kept on working. Customers came over and said he's messing up transactions. So I covered for him and when he came back he had no recollection of what had happened. So I guess for me this pretty much confirms that I had some kind of episode at the show. I'm not trying to put you or anyone on the guilt train just trying to explain my situation which actually makes me feel kind of good. Is there anyone else here that suffers from something that makes them worry about going to a show? Kristofor
Wilco Worshipper
My two cents... It was indeed a great show! Jeff was so "on". It's SOOO nice to see him so happy and social And, yes, I agree that crowd was somewhat rude and unruly. I'm guessing it might've been the beer. While in the 10th row for most of the show (had 3rd for the encore, thanks Jim ) there were plenty of people that I thought were kind of disrespectful, in particular the guy that was singing almost as loud as Jeff was at points I had some really nice, friendly neighbors and we just did the best we could to tune out the "bad". Jeff was completely incredible, as always and the last two songs were just beautiful Looking forward to some rockin' summer shows now!!!

Your accounts were just so way off (and sorta humorous actually ) that I thought they would bear correcting. I usually can't remember much either, but my husband and I had been cracking each other up with the banter on our looong drive home, so it sorta stuck. As far as worrying about going to a show, nothing blisses me out and relaxes me like a Wilco (et al) show. Take it easy!
