Wilco (the album) artwork

Recommended Posts

No kidding, nevermind the fact the 9 foot-1500 pound animal was taking pictures with my favorite band. It was a pleasant surprise after a delightful German lunch that's for sure.

Please, show some respect. He has a name - Tzvi.

Actually, thanks. I almost asked that question a few pages back, but decided against it for some reason.

side note: they used an alternate W / altered the W to get rid of some of the detail at the top of the letter that is standard in the font.

Allow me to shed some further light on this album cover if I may... my gf and I were in Milwaukee for the Wilco shows last month and happened to eat at Mader's for lunch the day the fellas were taking the shots with the camel outside the restaurant. (this was Night 2 April 15th) So I approach my car for a cig, and notice this huge camel in the alley behind the parking lot...I immediately think this odd, so I point it out to my girlfriend. Upon second look we noticed some professional lighting and several taking photos....We figured ok cool, they are filming some random commerical or ad. We went across the street to the Wisconsin Cheese store to grab some goodies, and I noticed nudie suits in the window (again I thought this was kinda odd, did Wilco actually buy these in Milwaukee?? They look VERY familiar) I wanted to go check out this store that had these up in the window, but decided to pass with the fear that I might be walking out with a $400 nudie suit lol. Anyways we go buy some cheese and walk back to the car, still in the Mader's lot. I notice the camel is still there in the alley, this time with a random guy with a nudie suit tending the massive animal. I do a quick second take and HOLY SHIT that is Wilco taking photos with the camel!!! I immediately grab my show poster and camera from the car, I think my gf thought I was gonna faint and start to walk over to the scene. The whole band was taking photos in front of the camel in the back alley behind Mader's. Everything wraps up within a couple minutes, not even enough time for me to change the battery on my digital camera. As the shoot wraps up, the fellas quicky disperse to head into Turner's for lunch as it was overheard. I was kinda laying low in the background, but as they were walking in, I walk up to John, introduced myslef and thanked him for the great show the previous night while I asked if he would sign my poster. He graciously obliged and as we were chatting up a bit, talking about how the photos were for the new album cover (Jeff mentioned for fans to show up early at the Pabst for the photo shoot the prior night) I noticed Pat and Jeff walking in during this time as well so I gave a quick nod and hello. I didn't want to invade too much of their time, afterall they were at work. But I felt I had to check what the scene was all about and would have hated myself if I had not taken advantage of this unique opportunity. I did manage to take this one photo of the camel after the fellas went in for lunch, there was no way in hell I was waiting for them to come out or go in to try and chat more. I do think the album cover might have been taken from the Turner roof though, there was a very large frieght elevator that the camel could have easily fit in.

I for one cannot wait to frame and hang the vinyl cover of this album in my place of residence. Awesome.

so i guess the font used on the Mader's website might explain the font used on the new cover?

:thumbup Beat me to it. Unless they park on the roof in that neighborhood, this is at street level.

It IS pretty amazing how strongly it suggests an aerial view if you're unfamiliar with the restaurant, though. I actually squinted to see the car and said "holy shit" out loud when I realized that the shot was indeed taken at ground level. I can't put my finger on why it looks like we're three stories up, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who immediately thought (and, once this thread is a memory, will most likely continue to think!) that's what we were looking at.

I know someone mentioned it earlier, but are we offically calling this the Camel Album?

I can see it in 20 years. My son will be telling his friends, "hey my dad has a copy of the Camel Album on vinyl"

"No way dude!"

hence why you post on the Wilco message board?

Yes, pile on! Everybody, feel free. Look, I can't help it if most of the songs that have been road-tested rank among the best's very worst. I like "Wilco (The Song)" a lot, if it helps. If it doesn't, you can always, I don't know, fuck off or something.

I think it has to be the rooftops - the building behind the restaurant looks three stories up, too. Gives the impression the camel party is on a rooftop deck.

I just wanted to state in writing, that this shall forever be known as The Camel Album.

I for one cannot wait for the camel album. It is going to be amazing, and will look awesome hanging on my wall to boot.

I hope they include a massive poster of the camel in the vinyl versions! It could say: "Tzvi loves you" above the camel and then just have him standing there hanging out.

the typeface is Fraktur for those that want to start using it on everything they own.

Maybe it's just familiarity with the area, but I can't see it as anything but ground level, no matter how hard I try. It's like a magic eye picture.

The only whiff of "hipster" I'm getting here is coming from you, because you're taking this so seriously.

IT'S A FUCKING ALBUM COVER.

Get a grip.

I agree with cryptique...besides, don't hipsters judge albums by the cover???

Well, I know the cover influences me, but I'm too old to be a hipster (still trying though and that is lame of me)

Simultaneously the most and least pretentious Wilco album cover yet. Nice.

For me the phrase that comes to mind is, "How is this not Awesome?!"

This also sheds some light on the camel-related stage banter at the Athens, OH show.
