Wilco (the album). Still into it?

Recommended Posts

Yes.

D-man and I have been listening to it steadily and enjoying every minute of it.

The three people I turned onto it have expressed great pleasure in hearing it.

You naysayers ever think you MIGHT be Jaded?

Taking a break. Listened to BBN live and it sounded good but identical almost to the second compare to the album which I hope changes. There are just a couple too many clunkers on this one for me to really dig it.

just listened to You Never Know again after putting it down for a while and i'm liking it a lot better than i initially had. i listened to Bull Black Nova on the way home from work tonight and it was raining/ lightning like crazy with a wild wind blowing. that really gave the song a new meaning to me, not that i was tired of it or anything, just made me see it a different way.

Listened for 2 weeks straight after the leak then put it away. Not for any dislike, I just didn't want to burn out on it (although that hasn't been a problem with the thousands of times I've listened to the other records).

However, I was planning on putting it back on heavy rotation today - seeing as the band's gonna be here (El Paso, TX) a week from tomorrow!

Still listening to it quite a bit. Found out my wife ordered the vinyl for me so as soon as that shows up I will be throwing it on some more.

cool wife!

just noticed my play count on itunes for W(TA) is 20! that's not including how many times i've listened to it on my ipod. my average album play count is prolly like 5-6, so i guess i like this album more than i've admitted. still can't wait for the vinyl.

I listened to it yesterday while I was waiting for the GDMF boat to show up, but I am going to not listen to it anymore until I get my actual e-copy from iTunes.

I've listened to it off and on, but haven't completely obsessed over it.. yet.. I'm sure it'll happen eventually like every Wilco album has for me. I really love it, it just hasn't soaked in yet completely.

But "You and I" led me to check out more Feist. I picked up "The Reminder".. Man that chick can sing.

After hearing a few of the new tracks live for the first time, I'm developing a new respect for the songs. Bull Black Nova and You Never Know are actually very different live than in the studio and in a very good way. Wilco the Song is pretty straightforward and sounds about the same live and on WTA.

...Sunny feeling, I felt, was just as bland and annoying live as it was on the record. Jeff even made a sarcastic crack about the song, saying we'll love the song when they come back and play it next year.

Does anyone else hear a Steely Dan guitar break in BBN? I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way (love The Dan personally), but there's a point in the song that wouldn't sound out of place on Aja.

iTunes actually does count your iPod listens- up until the last time you synced it, at least. ;)

I still love the album, and I think I've had every song on it stuck in my head at some point.

I'm a big Dan fan, too... I've been hearing twinges of Steely Dan in Wilco since AGIB and the Loose Fur stuff. I def. agree that BBN has that quality. Ever notice how much Hate it Here sounds a lot like Bad Sneakers and Any Major Dude...?

Yeah, definitely. I would say it's partly due to Nels' jazz background and Dan's propensity towards jazz scales / chords in their songs, particularly in their later albums.

My experience with SBS was that I liked the album very much, but after seeing them doing the songs live several times i appreciated it much more.

I'm hoping that is the case with WTA as well.

also recently noticed the Steely Dan flavor while listening to the AOAF audio in my car.

yes very much so. I am surprised so many people have put it down already seeing as how the general consensus was the album is a "grower"

I'm surprised too. It's growing on me more every day. Like all Wilco releases, for me anyway, the more time you spend with them the more terrific they become. Wilco (The Song) is the only one I don't listen to regularly. Can't wait to see how these play live.
