augurus
what do you both think? i think it's wonderful. actually i'm going to listen to it again now.I'm listening to it again. At first, I thought it was a retreat to Gallowsbird's Bark but now I realize this is Fiery Furnaces' actual stab at,... accessible music (shock and gasps). There's a different kind of depth in I'm Going Away. And it sounds like a beautiful child born from Gallowsbird's Bark and Bitter Tea. My admiration for this album is slowly blossoming. Current rank: Blueberry Boat > EP >= Gallowsbird's Bark > I'm Going Away > Bitter Tea > Widow City > Rehearsing My Choir.Previously: Menomena - I Am The Fun Blame Monster

lizish
I heard a track from this on NPR and it sounded very interesting. There 's a track on it that I just keep going back to. It's a kid's voice over be-bop, repeating 'It's like, It's like umm'. Really brings home the idea of using voices as rhythm. Interesting article from Carl Wilson (the 33 and 1/3 writer) about speech and song in discussion with Spearin: http://www.zoilus.com/documents/general/2009/001322.php

Shakespeare In The Alley
I am still amazed at this man's creativity.I want to like NMH, I really do. I've tried. But I cannot stand him. I just can't. The music on these albums is interesting, and the lyrics seem good, but I cannot get past his vocals. Just...no.
