calvino
Technically that line came from Patti Smith.
chuckrh
The Perilous Night is song of the year as far as I'm concerned.
chuckrh
Very nice, indeed. Still need to catch these guys play at some point. seriously
CortezTheKiller
Technically that line came from Patti Smith.Patterson credits her. I have never believed a song could change the world. But perhaps a song can provide an outlet for emotion, a tonic for the troops. Maybe a song can be a platform to launch our dreams from, a source of a little light to warm up our darkest nights. One more reason to raise our fists into the air and quote Patti Smith: “Love each other, motherfuckers!”

choo-choo-charlie
I don’t know, not sure I like the new song. Seems like he’s trying to be too literal and direct — I always thought Patterson’s best work were his story-songs.

Muzzle of Dan
Caught my first DBT show in Los Angeles last Friday night. What an amazing band! I will not miss another show if I can help it.
chuckrh
They are right up there with Wilco as far as I'm concerned!
Mr. Heartbreak
New record and tour coming, 2020: http://www.brooklynvegan.com/drive-by-truckers-announce-new-album-tour-share-new-track/ Been taking a deep dive into the DBT catalogue, mainly the lesser-known albums I hadn't heard before. An online search led to the above article. Looking forward to some new Truckers!
ditty
Drive By Truckers - The Unraveling A great record for these fucked up times. chuckrh
it's a fine, fine record. very different sonically. i put DBT on the same level as Wilco which is very high indeed. check it out!

Mr. Heartbreak
Did anyone here get the other DBT that came out this year? I was surprised to learn about this. http://www.drivebytruckers.com/records-TheNewOK.html

I was surprised to learn about this. http://www.drivebytruckers.com/records-TheNewOK.html Yes. Another excellent record from DBT. They are on a roll with 2 great records in a year. The current (& longest lasting) lineup is really strong. Great cover of "The KKK Took My Baby Away" on "The New OK". I'm not able to buy many CDs as I'm on a fixed income now but I splurged & got this one. No regrets. DBT are one of my favorite bands, about equal to Wilco. I've had a bit of dialog with Patterson Hood via email & he's a really nice guy. We bonded over Midnight Oil during the last Oils tour. The last 4 DBT studio records are all keepers. All 3 shows from last years Heathen's Homecoming are available online. Epic collection & worth picking up the downloads.

DBT, Wilco and YLT are my three favorite "current" bands.
Yaz Rock
Yeah, oddly, the digital release was a few months ago but the physical release was this week. That seems to be the direction the music industry is moving in. I echo all the above sentiments. Additionally, even when Cooley's writing contributions are minimal, the songs he submits are out-of-the-park great. DBT are pretty much the only band I listen to that are putting out topical songs of the times right now.
Mr. Heartbreak
I’ve got it but haven’t played it yet. Been working through some other releases. Looking forward to it!
ih8music
Perhaps not quite as strong as The Unraveling, The New OK is still an excellent album. Love the Ramones cover, to.
chuckrh
If you ever get a chance to see The Dimmer Twins (Hood & Cooley) do it. The show I saw was fantastic.
