W(TF)
K - I'll call ya Brenda Lee and raise you Tina Weymouth. Didn't she do that Rock Around The Xmas Tree song?? Ugh. Mass suicide. Not forgiveable.

Ghost of Electricity
Shame on y'all for not having mentioned Freakwater yet. And ultra-ultra-mega-mongo shame for not having brought up the Carter Family. (unless I missed it, in which case I apologize)
people are leaving
Didn't she do that Rock Around The Xmas Tree song?? Ugh. Mass suicide. Not forgiveable. There are so many non-forgivable blah blah blah Xmas blah blah blah songs, I figured I'd let her off the hook for that one. FWIW- the song appeared as background music during the children's classic Rudy The Red-Nosed RD.
GtrPlyr
Shame on y'all for not having mentioned Freakwater yet. And ultra-ultra-mega-mongo shame for not having brought up the Carter Family. (unless I missed it, in which case I apologize)Without fail there always has to be someone in these threads saying "shame on your for not mentioning [insert name here]." This is a list of people's personal top 10, not who we think are the most important female artists of all-time. I like the Carter Family, but I don't listen to them nearly as much as other artists on my list (a lot of that has to do with the crappy sounding box set I have.) I realize their historical and musical importance and influence is greater than a lot of people mentioned, probably most, but that doesn't put them in my top 10. Freakwater has put out some good records, but I don't think it's a band that screams top 10 favorite for many. No shame there, just a testament to the number of talented female musicians throughout history. p.s. Shame on you for not mentioning Ma Rainey, Mahalia Jackson, Big Mama Thornton...
