barbkm
Good. Now I kow that I will not need to watch it.
jtrollmann
They were nominated in the Best Americana Album category? I mean, getting a nod is cool, but when I think of Wilco, especially Wilco (The Album), I'm not thinking Americana. It would have been cool if they were to perform tonight. It would be cooler if they skipped the whole thing. If they do win they should send one of Jeff's kids up to accept. Now that would be cool.

ditty
Best Americana Album"Electric Dirt" - Levon Helm[Dirt Farmer Music/Vanguard Records] http://www.grammy.com/nominees
uncool2pillow
I haven't heard all of those albums, but I feel of those that I have, Levon deserved the win at least over Wilco. I think it's a better album and definitely fits the category better.
Preferred B
L.A Times: 2:35 p.m. Levon Helms' "Electric Dirt" wins best Americana album, besting titles from Bob Dylan and Wilco. The latter's "Wilco (The Album)" didn't really fit in this category, but that's a quirk of having 109 categories. Here's a fun fact: Wilco did not submit its title for album of the year contention. chisoxjtrain
Jay Bennett was in the In Memorium (spelling?) section as the "co-founder of Wilco."
sgtpepper64
Haha as soon as I saw it had Jay under "co-founder of Wilco" the first thing I thought was the people at VC are going to have a fit. I was pleasantly surprised to see him in the "In Memorial" section though.
suites
Nice to see him in there...I think it was a slow year for music related deaths. Should have said...former member.
tongue-tied
Wasn't he the cofounder of v2.0?
Guest Speed Racer
Should have said...former member. Well, people who die are "former" to most everything by the time they're in that retrospective. He was a member of Wilco, and should be remembered as such.
Shakespeare In The Alley
It's no surprise that he was in there, really. The Grammy's always list the big names, and Jay is more or less a big name. I saw his death story on the front page of AOL and Yahoo, so it was a relatively big piece of news. The Grammy's may suck as a legitimate award, but those death lists are always longer than just the biggest names.
jff
Nice to see him in there...I think it was a slow year for music related deaths. Any year in which Les Paul dies cannot be described as a slow year for deaths. Not to mention Michael Jackson.
LouieB
What a monstrosity of a show. Everything looked proto-facist to me. LouieB
jff
What a monstrosity of a show. Everything looked proto-facist to me. LouieB I watched all I could stand and bailed just in time to watch Smokey and the Bandit on HBO. Were there any performances in which the musicians were visible or were they all cloaked in darkness behind dozens of dancers?
suites
Any year in which Les Paul dies cannot be described as a slow year for deaths. Not to mention Michael Jackson. you are right...I was referring to the amount of deaths. Well, people who die are "former" to most everything by the time they're in that retrospective. He was a member of Wilco, and should be remembered as such. it should have said Member of Wilco...not "Founding"
Guest Speed Racer
it should have said Member of Wilco...not "Founding" Absolutely, but I was contesting your assertion that it should have said, "former member," which to me is unnecessary.
watch me fall
Were there any performances in which the musicians were visible or were they all cloaked in darkness behind dozens of dancers? Taylor Swift was visible but her singing made my ears bleed.
jff
Taylor Swift was visible but her singing made my ears bleed. I mean, like, a musician who is not the front-person/star. I remember seeing one musician during Beyonce's act, but that was only because she had a bullseye painted on her guitar. If Wilco played on the Grammys would they make Jeff Tweedy prance around the stage with a bunch of dancers while the other guys were hidden?

I wonder how much of the performances are actually live anyhow. I was looking at some photos from the ceremony on Yahoo this morning and for some odd reason I was reminded of The Jetsons. Dude
I have a feeling the whole spectacle of the Grammys, which has about as much to do with music as fish have to do with playing basketball, is the reason the band steered clear. "It's All About the Fans" Grammy interviewer girl doesn't quite get that. I like how she pratically tackles Mikeal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=za-4Q2y3Tuc
barbkm
I guess we can all agree that the red carpet is not their thing. Where's jeff's tie? Oh -- and to reiterate what I said about glenn's beard -- me likey, me likey alot. In a suit, vest and tie.... Oh boy.

W(TF)
Absolutely, but I was contesting your assertion that it should have said, "former member," which to me is unnecessary. He wasn't a current member of the band when he died, I think that's an important distinction. Dunno HOW they came up with "co-founder"....maybe they ask the family what they'd like it to say in the caption? And then don't bother to research it to verify?? Weird. Or maybe some flunkie just got the Jays mixed up with the Tupelo and Uncle Wilcos. Still makes no sense that his whole identity as a human being would be "Wilco member" when he had only spent 5 years of his life in the band, and not that recently. Anyway this whole thread confirms my current stand against network television as a whole, it's pretty much all crap apart from the sports..
