The Sun Came Out- Movie

Recommended Posts

I saw this on another site thought it might be news here?

I read that there was a Wilco song played in the studio during this and it's in the movie and it's never been heard before? No idea what it's called???

The documentary film The Sun Came Out about the making of The 7 Worlds Collide collaboration is being premiered at 7:30 on Tuesday February 9 at the largest of the Metro 4 theaters in Santa Barbara as part of the film festival there . Neil Finn who was the instigator of this project will be taking part in a Q & A session after the screening along with the film maker Simon Mark Brown .He will then be joined by Lisa Germano and Sebastian Steinberg for a special performance 10.00 pm at the Soho club in Santa Barbara to perform a number of songs from the 7 Worlds Collide album.

The film is a highly entertaining account of an intense 3 weeks of music making featuring never seen before studio footage of members of Wilco , Radiohead , Johnny Marr , KT Tunstall and others writing rehearsing and recording the songs that made up this extraordinary double album.

There will be a repeat screening of the film the following Saturday night Feb 13th.

I assume this is the documentary that showed on NZ TV last summer. What a cool event! I wish I were in Santa Barbara.

I think the original documentary was 45 minutes long, whereas this is 1.5 hours, so I think it includes a lot more footage. Still hoping for a 7WC2 concert when Wilco are in Australia in May.

We will be at the show. Not sure about the film..

I have a buddy that is somewhat involved with folks in the know, and apparently there will be some "special guests" at the Q&A after the film. No idea who though - Good chance for some special guests at the Soho gig too.

Alas, won't be anyone from Wilco as they are playing the second gig of their West Coast tour in Portland next Tuesday.

Got a ticket for the show but am having a hard time figuring out how to get a ticket to the movie without paying for a festival package. Any suggestions?

Just show up to the theater before the event.

They let pass holders in first, and then sell tickets after. Not sure how popular this showing will be - so tickets may not be an issue

From the Frenz Forum - a Finn fansite..... (nice alliteration there)....

"the Wilco boys played a song in the studio that has never been heard and that is in the movie"

Again from the Frenz Forum:

I asked him (neil) why "Cool Down" by Wilco was excluded from the album (it was in the movie). He responded that you'd have to buy the DVD to get it or something to that effect. At the venue now. Ready for the shoooooow.

Hey, Mahinty - thanks for the link. I moved your post into this thread since it relates better to the film. Speaking of which, do you know if and/or when this DVD would be released to the public? I really want to buy it.

there will be a DVD this march :)

it's a double DVD with the original 7 Worlds Collide Concert Movie from 2001 and the documentary about the "the sun came out" project.

Notice that it's a Region 4 DVD. Which means that unless you bought your DVD player in Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, the Caribbean, or South America it's not going to play.

Unless you can convert it to a region-free player which many players are capable of -- especially the cheap ones. Just Google "your_DVD_player_model region free" for instructions (if it's possible.)

A couple of button presses on the remote and my player is now region-free.

For those interested, this is now on Netflix streaming.

Thanks for the tip - watched it this afternoon and really enjoyed it. It's not the most riveting music documentary ever filmed, but that clearly was not the intention. I wish there was more footage from the live shows which looked terrific. That said, I really enjoyed the piece about the differences between American rock bands and British rock bands - it was interesting... Also nice confirm that this group of stellar musicians are clearly good and nice folk!
