Dude
Since VC is morphing into a film discussion forum (at least this week), I thought this would be a fun topic. I've always loved this movie:
Atticus
cinema paradiso has long been one of my all-time favorites, and I don't see it mentioned all that much, although I think a lot of posters here enjoyed it.
RainDogToo
Edward G. Robinson was such an underrated actor, as well.

IATTBYB
I don't know if this qualifies as an underrated film, but I recently watched Death at a Funeral, and it is now on my list of 5 movies that I would want if I was stranded on a desert island. A fine example of absurd British comedy.

Beltmann
I stand by my conviction that Quiz Show is one of the greatest American movies of the '90s. I actually saw Booty Call in the theater, as part of a triple feature that included The Sixth Man (Marlon Wayans) and McHale's Navy (Kelsey Grammar). True story. AJ673
anything by Hal Hartley
Wild Frank
Very hard to define an underated film, but my shout out goes to. 'Local Hero'. A truly great, heartwarming, film. I never see it in the usual 'best of..' lists. Other undervalued gems are things like Jim Yarmusch's 'Down by Law', David Lynch's 'Lost Highway' and 'Fire Walk With Me' and Woody Allen's 'Zelig'. PopTodd
anything by Hal Hartley Honestly, that was the first thing that popped into my head. But then, I think of this: Usually the first film that people mention when talking about John Woo's Hong Kong output is The Killer, but I think that Hard Boiled is actually better. And it's probably the greatest action flick of the 90's. Maybe the greatest action flick of all time. Also, just plain great filmmaking. And this is my favorite Kevin Smith movie:Chris Rock as "Rufus" (the 13th, and never-mentioned apostle) was brilliant!

jff
I was going to say "Sweet and Lowdown", since it seems to be a forgotten movie amongst the overwhelming blizzard of Woody Allen films. But then I realized it received two academy Award nominations, so it can't be considered underrated.
Dude
I had never gotten around to seeing this but now I'm definitely interested in checking it out. I loved Linklater's earlier experiments with animation / rotoscoping in this:
