Preferred B
They did Thank You Friends!!! It was awesome.Three exclamation points from bbop, you know it was good. I checked out the in-progress set earlier, and I'm so excited about the upcoming shows. That acoustic set in the middle is most intriguing. Spiders! April can't come soon enough for me. bobbob1313
Oh my god, I couldn't be more excited. Going to Atlanta and Durham shows. Did they go on right at 8? scheduled for 8:30, more like 8:45, but they played until like 11:20. I'm not generally one to complain about crowds, and all in all, this was a good one, but I did have two songs legitimately ruined for me, unfortunately. During "Impossible Germany", Jeff basically stopped playing and starred at a guy a few feet away from me who was videotaping, and he kept it up for a good minutes after. I finally tapped him on the shoulder and told him to put the camera down, but overall, it was pretty distracting with Jeff stopping playing and all. Unfortunate. And then during either "Handshake Drugs" or "You Never Know", a guy behind me kept yelling random things throughout the song. It takes a lot for me to have a bad concert experience, but this guy was literally yelling something like "oh yeah" or "that's it" every 10 seconds. Sorry if you're on this board, man, and I'm really happy you were enjoying the song that much, but come on, man. Despite those two minor hiccups, it was an incredible show. The acoustic set was right up my alley, since I'd seen them once on the WTA tour and a couple of other times, so it wa great to see something completely different. The band really seemed to enjoy it too, but I wonder how much the people outside of the pit were feeling it. I could imagine the more intimate set up would be lost on someone 100+ feet away. Surprisingly great crowd for a Miami show, though I never expected I would ever hear high school girls screaming during a wilco show. Biggest surprise of the night, by far. I checked out the in-progress set earlier, and I'm so excited about the upcoming shows. That acoustic set in the middle is most intriguing. Spiders! April can't come soon enough for me. It was glorious, and both a perfect tribute to Alex and a great way to end the show. Jeff, John and Pat all took a turn on vocals and the harmonies were gorgeous. Jeff introduced the song by saying, "This one goes out to Alex...and to you." Here's hoping they play it a few more times on this run. Also, my only comment re: the setlists posted thus far is that the last song of the acoustic set was actually "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)" a/k/a the Sesame Street version. Just for accuracy's sake. And the segue into Misunderstood was fabulous. One other thing I must also mention: Mike played an accordion on Hesitating Beauty! The first time an accordion has ever been played at a Wilco show? u2roolz
:worship :worship :worship Wow! I can't wait for Boston & Concord (so glad I'm going to 2 shows!) Is it safe to assume that Spiders was done in the Jeff solo arrangement?
bböp
:worship :worship :worship Wow! I can't wait for Boston & Concord (so glad I'm going to 2 shows!) Is it safe to assume that Spiders was done in the Jeff solo arrangement? Yeah, pretty much. Or at least the more recent Jeff solo arrangement that's sort of a hybrid of the original and the Kraut arrangements (i.e. with the breakdown included). It's not all the way back to the jangly version. One of the pleasures of the acoustic set was getting to see Nels play acoustic. He doesn't do it very often, especially live, but he's really an excellent acoustic player as well. Also, Pat really showed his versatility -- playing banjo on a couple songs, covering the ending of Kamera on xylophone and of course doing his usual work on keys. Unfortunately the crowd was pretty darned chatty during the acoustic portion tonight. I think it will work much better in the seated theater settings coming up. nalafej
Amazing Amazing Amazing. 35+ shows and the band still blows my mind coming up with new things - loved every bit of this show and crowd. Great theater. Great song selection. Wilco feeling a bit goofy. They did take a VCer idea and have that computer voice that they've used before ask people to not video tape which was really funny. Taking requests outside the venue before the show brought up some great songs and is encouraging from a setlist variability standpoint for the rest of the tour. They even were giving out dinners for 2 to the people who's requests were played! At the dining establishment I ate at last night no less. Very Dave Lettermany. Preferred B
No Via Chicago??? Ugh. Dude. Thanks for the reports, guys. I was wondering where the accordion would fit in; I guess I have my answer. And as for Pat and the banjo ... THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE. Can I start my campaign for Montclair now?
indy81
Wow, I'm usually a setlist complainer but that looks great. All you East-coasters are in for a treat. The acoustic set is a great idea -- I thought their recent setlists were getting too "rocky" at the expense of their quieter stuff, so it's great to see them make room for "Sky Blue Sky", "Hesitating Beauty", etc. Part of me wishes they'd ditch the opening act from now on. I was curious what the Florida crowd would be like, and was pretty impressed. And I absolutey loved the acoustic set. As for the noise during the acoustic portion, there was a medical issue in the seats between the first set and the acoustic set. And Wilco came back on before they were able to get the man out of the stadium, so that may have been where the noise was coming in.

suites
Sick.....Sick....Sick show. Best I ever saw them and best show period for me that I remember. Thanks to the ladies who had the "secret entrance" which got us on the rail right in front of Nels. That guy is so right on it is crazy. You guys made the show really fun for me and my 17 year old son. Just a really great performance from the band and South Florida did step up to have a great showing. I heard the show did actually sell out right at the end. Well on to Clearwater. ps: I decided not to tape the show, but I did see 2 stands, so hopefully we will get those recordings. Central Scrutinizer
I think it's very cool that not only are they doing an acoustic set, at least from the first show, it appears they're playing songs that take them completely out of their electric element. Sort of YHF in reverse.

kmerrill80
scheduled for 8:30, more like 8:45, but they played until like 11:20. Overall great show, the acoustic set was a nice break. The "Oh Yeah", "That's it", "Holy Shit" kids were behind me the whole first set, they seemed to lose their minds every time Nels grabbed the guitar. Then they started to do some sort of head bang that I have not seen since the 90's. Part of me applauded their enthusiasm, maybe on of their first concerts, the other part of me was getting annoyed. Luckily they moved after the set break. Impressive crowd for Miami, was worried since my last shows were the residency shows and those were memorable but this was a very good time. rhino4evr
here is what I posted in the other thread I'll be honest I was a little disappointed with the show last night. Don't get me wrong, they played an excellent show, and sounded amazing, but I was hoping for a older song setlist. Maybe it's just my general dislike for pretty much all the songs from Wilco the Album. I was hoping seeing them live would change my opinion of them, but it only cemented that fact. I can't believe they skipped playing Via Chicago or She's a Jar to play something as boring as "I'll Fight" The Spiders acoustic was a cool idea, but it got kinda lost in transition. I would have preferred if they plugged in for that. Lack of Don't Forget The Flowers during the acoustic set was disappointing as well. I don't know maybe my expectations were just too high... I still had a great time, but like always I wanted them to play longer..and they played from 8:45 to 11:45..with only a 15 min break. Another cool moment, I don't think Jeff sang ANY of Jesus Etc. The entire song (including the chorus) was sung by teh audience. Finally, the show was not that crowded. I expected a much bigger turn out. AND they were not checking tickets AT ALL. So all you balcony people could have come down and partied with the downstaris folks if you wanted to. My buddy was in the PIT right with us, and he had Mezzanine seats. some additional comments....That was Jeff's son that played the rest of California Stars right? Impossible Germany was probably the most impressive song of the night for me...Nels Killed it. Monday was a lot of fun too. The acoustic stuff was great, but I don't think everyone was feeling the love. People around me seemed a little restless and noiser during those songs. One point before Deeper Down..Jeff said. "This is a quiet song, so you should be quiet...or you can talk if you want. "This seemed to cause a majority of the crowd to start talking...ugh.
bböp
Was all of the acoustic set acoustic? Or, was everyone on an acoustic instrument? What about Mikael? Edit: just saw Wilco Honey's post (welcome, by the way). Pat on banjo??? xylophone?? More about the "acoustic set": It wasn't completely acoustic; call it more of a "stripped down" set than truly acoustic. John played electric bass on all but two songs, I believe. For the other two he had a sort of slimline version of an upright bass. (I think he used it on Hesitating Beauty and Sky Blue Sky, but don't quote me on that.) In any case, it was new to me. If memory serves, when they played Bridge School a few years ago -- which is almost exclusively acoustic -- John didn't use an upright bass but regular one that looked almost...wooden? Help? Pat and Mikael had keyboards so those weren't acoustic, obviously. Jeff described it as playing some of the songs the way they sometimes play them in their dressing room before a show. I think there might be some footage of this on one of the DVDs or a photo of it in the Wilco Book or something. Certainly the setup was stripped down, as one might expect, with Glenn on his practice kit and Nels sitting down with an acoustic or one of his lap steels. Each member, except Jeff I guess, had a little antique-looking lamp at his "station," so it sort of played on the whole "An Evening With..." theme. KInd of like them setting up and playing in a living room or something like that. At any rate, I'm sure they're still tweaking how they handle this portion of the show so I wouldn't be surprised to see some slight variations/improvements as the tour goes on. I wonder if they might do away with the intermission -- it was only about 10 minutes, if that, and kind of stopped the momentum of the show a little bit. But then again, if they don't take a slight break, I don't really see how the crew would be able to set up the acoustic "stations."
