PopTodd
Didn't think I saw the Cars or Dire straits on anyone's lists. I could be wrong but didn't notice. Both are horrifying oversights.Nice catch!

Sweet Papa Crimbo
The power of internet shaming is strong I hesitating to post Vampire Weekend (in the best debuts AND best Second Records) I declined to post the Killers in both lists I feared to post Band of Horses in both lists (the original and mine) I am worthless and weak. Mr. Heartbreak
mr heartbreak, there are musicians who have put out music since 1974.That's the wonderful thing about Wilco. They bring together people like you - who posts "you could easily fill the 20 w/ just punk and post-punk records" - and me. I happen to think that pretty much every punk and post-punk band is total crap, whereas you are probably not as big of a classic rock or classic jazz fanatic as me. I would rather celebrate our differences than choose them as a means of criticizing.

Mr. Heartbreak
7. The GoGos - Beauty and the Beat8. Capn Beefheart - Safe as Milk9. Flying Burrito Brothers - Gilded Palace of Sin These are all very worthy candidates.I (perhaps unfairly) disqualified the Beatles' solo careers, as they were not debuting as artists on those records. Otherwise, hard to ignore those guys.

Shug
Boston - Self Titled Thank you for this, maybe the best debut album ever, for those who like classic rock, that is. It also stands out, I think, because they faded so quickly. I love to use this album to check out new audio equipment.

calvino
Will do - I have copies of both on request from my library system - the other two I heard are Near Truths and The Devil you Know - they both are okay, but his first one is real good.
Lammycat
The Devil You Know is quite good, it took me a few spins and hearing some of them life to really dig it, though. Near Truths is awesome, imo. Good taste of his life shows and wit/humor in his stories.....
