Didn't think I saw the Cars or Dire straits on anyone's lists. I could be wrong but didn't notice.

Both are horrifying oversights.

Nice catch!

has no one said Van Halen yet?

btw i just realized this was an older thread, and i was happy to see about 50% of my selections were the same.

21) Elton John - Empty Sky

22) Aerosmith - S/T

23) Van Halen - S/T

24) Yes - S/T

25) Simon & Garfunkel - Wednesday, 3 a.m.

26) Grateful Dead - S/T

27) King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King

The power of internet shaming is strong

I hesitating to post Vampire Weekend (in the best debuts AND best Second Records)

I declined to post the Killers in both lists

I feared to post Band of Horses in both lists (the original and mine)

I am worthless and weak.

mr heartbreak, there are musicians who have put out music since 1974.

That's the wonderful thing about Wilco. They bring together people like you - who posts "you could easily fill the 20 w/ just punk and post-punk records" - and me. I happen to think that pretty much every punk and post-punk band is total crap, whereas you are probably not as big of a classic rock or classic jazz fanatic as me. I would rather celebrate our differences than choose them as a means of criticizing.

The Elton John S/T record was his second released in 1969...S/T released in 1970

The diversity of our musical heritage and interests here on Via Chicago has been eye opening to me.  The power of Wilco.

These are all very worthy candidates.

I (perhaps unfairly) disqualified the Beatles' solo careers, as they were not debuting as artists on those records. Otherwise, hard to ignore those guys.

Boston - Self Titled

Thank you for this, maybe the best debut album ever, for those who like classic rock, that is.  It also stands out, I think, because they faded so quickly.  I love to use this album to check out new audio equipment.

Just recently started to delve into Todd Snider's work - his debut "Songs for the Daily Planet" is my favorite of his so far.

Oh man, glad to hear this. Definitely hit Happy to Be Here and East Nashville Skyline, next!
