brianjeremy
also, beach house is very good - but i do prefer devotion somewhat. I am the opposite. I fell like Zebra is their finest work. Devotion was okay but lacked brilliance in some parts but for me Zebra is one of the most engaging and mesmerizing LPs of the year. Every time I listen to it I am enthralled by it. There aren't too many albums I can say that about without feeling "funny"...

Synthesizer Patel
Joanna Newsom should be given props (I think it is her best work)However I struggle to engage at times, I'm not smart enough to wrap my brain around her lyrics i don't understand a lot of the lyrics literally, i just get the sense of what they are about. actually that's normally how i approach music - dylan would be a good example of that, where i don't know what he means a lot of the time, but i get the sentiment/feeling. when i listen to music i tend to spot bad lyrics very easily, whereas good lyrics wash over me a lot more. so, i couldn't tell you what most of the songs are really about, either (well not in any great detail, anyway) - i just really like them. I am the opposite. I fell like Zebra is their finest work. Devotion was okay but lacked brilliance in some parts but for me Zebra is one of the most engaging and mesmerizing LPs of the year. Every time I listen to it I am enthralled by it. There aren't too many albums I can say that about without feeling "funny"... i do like it a lot. it's just i actually feel like i'd rather play devotion than teen dream, whenever i feel like playing any of their stuff. so, if someone else puts it on, i won't turn it off - is what i'm saying. No, I get where you are coming from, and I'm the same with alot of music. For example, Tweedy just speaks to me and the majority of time, even when he is trying to be abstract I still feel like I get it.Band of Horses is a good example of connecting emotionally, most people would say their lyrics are awful, but for me it is the whole mood/vibe/sincerity that connects and at least they throw you a bone every now and then that puts the song in contextwith ms. newsom, I dig the artistry and sound and I like her voice. But it just feels too complex at times, too dense, like a fortress that my pea brain throws a white towel at.

I like the first one more than Devotion, which was a let down for me. Teen Dream is still in my top 3 for sure. That, Besnard Lakes, and High Violet.

Killer Whales
It's offical: I am out of the loop with current music. I have never even heard of one of these bands, let alone the records. For me, it's The Black Keys, The National, Drive-By Truckers, or the new Petty. They're all indie-electronica acts, so unless you listen to that, there's no reason you should know that stuff. Sadly for me, I didn't even know Tom Petty had a new record
hazel
i don't know a lot of these bands either, i have heard the names of a lot of them but have not listened,..i do like LCD soundsystem and i only know of them from watching festivals online at the AT&T blue room..i like dr dog and i like gorillaz a lot even tho i'm not a big fan of electonica music. i see nobody mentioned the EVEREST album 'on approach'.. the singer reminds me of a cross between jeff buckley/chris martin and a little jim james..saw them open for neil/wilco in philly and thought they were pretty good and worth checking out. glad i did. 'ghost notes' was good too.
Moss
It's great to see I'm not the only one that really likes the Ariel Pink album. I had not really heard anybody mention it. Beach House is still my number 1 for the year and definitely my fave by them. That one just gets better with each listen. Band of Horses I did not like on first listen but it has really grown on me as well. The melodies are just undeniable.
augurus
10 >> Gainsbourg, Charlotte - IRMIt's secretly the best Beck record in close to a decade. 09 >> Titus Andronicus - The MonitorSurprise of the year. I would love to see these guys live. 08 >> Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before TodayWhen I first saw Ariel Pink, he had easily convinced me that I had seen the worst opening act ever aside from Third Eye Blind. Contrary to previous remark, one of the best albums of the year so far. I'd like to see Ariel Pink live once more and see where I stand. 07 >> Scott-Heron, Gil - I'm New HereThe grandfather returns with an excellent album. 06 >> Janelle Monáe - The ArchandroidSecond shock of the year. 05 >> Flying Lotus - CosmogrammaNot enough appreciation for this. 04 >> National, The - High VioletIt took a month for me to see the beauty. 03 >> Caribou - SwimAnyone else love Bowls? 02 >> Sleigh Bells - TreatsCan't wait to see these guys. I should expect a mosh pit, right? 01 >> LCD Soundsystem - This Is HappeningI cannot imagine why this album doesn't appear in a top 10 list. Honorable Mention >> Hot Chip - One Life Stand

Synthesizer Patel
actually i forgot to mention caribou. it's a really good album too. i think i prefer andorra (so it's a bit like how i feel with beach house), but it's still really good stuff.
Moss
oi! i thought i posted about the album in the now playing thread! how quickly they forget. Sorry, I'm sure I saw it. Usually when an album is really good you get at least a few people posting about it. Even if one person raves about an album I tend to want to hear it.
nodep5
Tallest Man On Earth "The Wild Hunt" just recently picked up the entire record. After hearing a few songs, I thought I would not be able to get past his voice, but I kept hearing more and more on the college radio and I've grown to actually enjoy the voice Every track has great melodies and some heartbreaking lyrics here and there. Awesome record.
alecrothman
What Laura Says - Bloom Cheek Some of the best sounds I've heard in a while. I think this one easily tops my 2010 list so far. I also really dig the releases by Dr. Dog, Caribou, Broken Social Scene, Surfer Blood, Harlem, Vampire Weekend and Wavves. The Delta Spirit album I was kinda meh'ed by, but seeing them live again on July 4th easily made up for that.

Shakespeare In The Alley
Danger Mouse and Sparkelhorse "Dark Night Of The Soul" is very impressive. I haven't been this excited about a new release on first listen sense YHF.It was the 2nd best album of 2009 for me. It's amazing to me how each one of those songs wouldn't be out of place on the singer's main band's albums. Really impressive work by Burton and Linkous. It's also amazing how so many diverse singers/writers can sound so coherent on the album. I'm not typically fond of albums with many different vocalists. But this one works. Even though I played the hell out of my digital copy of that album, I'm still hearing new things when I listen to the CD through a better set of speakers. It was already an amazing album, but the better sound quality of the official release has made it even better. I more than likely won't let myself count it on any 2010 list. But if I did, it would certainly be near the top.
