but when you wake up........... feeeeeeeeeeelin old, comes a close second

BTW, hell is chrome bores the hell out of me. i get worried that they might waste a spot in the setlist by playing it if i'm there. and i've been lucky so far!

Do you prefer Paul or John? (I swear, this could connect)

My Darling makes me cry.

That one gets into that syrupy sweet, almost cheesey category for me. But "Please Tell My Brother" on the other hand, hits me like a truck......in a good way. Brilliant, beautiful, touching.

Muzzle of Bees is fly!

P.S. gogo is not in my top 10 JT/Wilco fans

anymore. Probably not even top 20.

They might be bigger...but there's no way they could be better. Manboobs are unfortunate at best. Girl boobs are fortunate at worst.

:lol

Red Elevator.

Fans of Misunderstood should seek out one of the earliest live versions of the song that reached 13 minutes.

It is fucking insanely brilliant. It goes places and keeps getting more intense. And the overall arrangement is a bit different too.

I'll have to juice up my old iPod for the actual date. I think it might be on the Owl & Bear site.

Remember that old thread called "First Time Live"? That was fun and had a lot of cool downloads. I was at the first show where they premiered Side With The Seeds.

Anyone else out there with a playlist with Wilco tunes performed live for the first time (or close enough)?

OK, I resurrected my "dead" iPod for that old playlist of "First Time Live". I'm not going out tonight until that is fully charged. I need to listen to these again.

There were 7 tracks and 6 songs.

If someone with better "search forum" skills wants to track that thread down, then go right ahead.

1st: Kingpin 10-25-95 Maxwell's Hoboken, NJ Owl & Bear

1st: Misunderstood 10-7-95 Blue Note Columbia, MO (3 minute version) Owl & Bear

Misunderstood 11-22-95 American Theater St. Louis, MO (13 minute version. Show closer.)

2nd: Sunken Treasure 3-25-06 Laguna Seca Raceway Salinas, CA

1st: Nothing'severgonnastandinmyway(again) 3-25-98 Lounge Ax Chicago, IL Tweedy Solo

1st: When You Wake Up Feeling Old 11-12-98 Loung Ax Chicago, IL Tweedy Solo Owl & Bear

1st: Remember The Mountain Bed 1-4-00 Lounge Ax Chicago, IL Tweedy Solo Owl & Bear

Edit: There were 2 extra songs on my playlist that were not on my iPod. They also came from that same thread about 4 years ago.

1st: Feed Of Man 7-9-97 Lounge Ax Chicago, IL Tweedy & Bennett Owl & Bear

1st: She's A Jar 10-29-97 First Avenue Minneapolis, MN Owl & Bear

The next songs are gathered from torrents and in my playlist. My external hard drive recently crashed and of course the above tracks can not be found. If anyone has any great software to use to extract songs from your iPod let me know.

1st: On & On & On 9-22-05 Cain's Ballroom Tulsa, OK

1st: The Good Part 3-5-06 Memorial Hall Chapel Hill, NC

1st: The Thanks I Get 3-5-06 Memorial Hall Chapel Hill, NC

2nd: Let's Not Get Carried Away 10-6-06 MSU Concert Auditorium East Lansing,MI

1st: Let's Fight 7-13-06 The Playhouse Frederiction, New Brunswick Owl & Bear

1st: Side With The Seeds 11-25-06 Auditorium Theater Chicago, IL Owl & Bear

P.S. Lacie's Poulton external hard drive is not to be trusted.

P.P.S. I may be able to put a couple of these on a SendSpace or YouSendIt link later tonight for anyone who is interested. :thumbup

I will leave you with that amazing 13 minute Misunderstood.

I've been listening to Bob Dylan's 49th Beard a lot lately. It sounds like such a sweet little song, until you listen closely to the lyrics, and then it becomes this really weird sweet little song. I think Jeff is at his best lyrically when he's taking emotions out of their normal context--At Least That's What You Said comes to mind, as does Poor Places and Ashes of American Flags (and quite a bit of YHF really). I think for me at least that's what's been missing from his songwriting lately.

Different songs resonate with me at different times. Via Chicago never really hit me hard until I heard them play it in Chicago. It's meant a lot more to me since then. I've only gotten to hear Ashes twice, and both times it's been intense and beautiful. When I'm feeling very panicky, which happens with me from time to time, I'll turn off all the lights and lay down and listen to the version of it from Kicking Television on repeat until I calm down. Nels' solo works every time. I try not to take it for granted that I have this really amazing tool to help me get through my rough times (and to celebrate all my great times, not to mention all the times between those two extremes). Sometimes when I hear someone say they don't listen to music very much, I wonder how in the world they cope with all the crap that life can throw at us.

unreal:

Highlights my general contempt for British punk (except for the Clash). It was all a pose and just another avenue for campy dress and behavior. New York City punk was the real deal.

I do the exact same thing and feel the exact same way. Just those first few notes of Nels' Ashes solo on KT are beautiful. Always will be one of my favorite live Wilco songs, very grateful they played it the last two times ive seen them, though i don't think ive heard a Nels solo quite as good as KT (Solid sound was close). Seems to me like he tries too hard nowadays. The older solos were beautiful in their simplicity.

I also find myself listening to More like the Moon when i need to calm down or straighten my thoughts. Absolutely beautiful song. I don't know how people get by without music, im quite addicted to it myself. I wouldn't last a day without it i reckon.
