suites
I was thinking of groups/solo who have every studio album they ever made great....and only a few came to my mind. Need more than a few Albums (Nirvana would not qualify). Led Zeppelin - Only In Through The Out Door would be less than a grade of A.BeatlesCCRVU Wilco - Still going but so far so good. any other groups qualify

JAK2112
Honestly, can't think of any Groups/Artists that were around for a while and never made a less than great album. Nick DrakeJeff Buckley These are the only two i can truly think of, and obviously they couldn't live out their full careers
Hoodoo Man
The only band that really qualifies for me is The Beatles. Of course, I've never really counted Yellow Sub as one of their albums because it was really just a compilation of scores from the cartoon and some songs they had laying around. If I have to count it, then I'm still going to say it's great just because "Hey Bulldog" is so awesome.

A few career high points (or close to it), but a lot of filler, and one shamefully atrocious ballad.

A few career high points (or close to it), but a lot of filler, and one shamefully atrocious ballad. It's uneven for sure, yet I'm drawn to its rough, raw sound. And there's some great guitar riffs (and guitar work in general) in there. Not even close to their best, but I think it's still a great record for a quick snippet of late-period Beatles. Qhich one's the shamefully atrocious ballad? ( )
tinnitus photography
the criteria is 'great' LPs, and i think that's a pretty high bar to clear. The DelgadosThe ChameleonsStooges (i guess 3 LPs is cheating)

theashtraysays
the criteria is 'great' LPs, and i think that's a pretty high bar to clear. I really can't think of anyone. A few bands are clunker-free imo, but not all those are great records.

I would agree that it is uneven, but it's still impressive to think that this is another collection of songs that were lying around and that The Beatles had essentially walked away from with no real plans to return. dtram
R.E.M. Murmur through Automatic For The PeopleThe Who Everything with Keith MoonVelvet Underground I'm assuming the bad ballad being referred to on Let It Be is The Long And Winding Road. As much as I hate how saccarine (sp?) McCartney could get, expecially post Beatles, I like that tune. More so the original Get Back version before Spector added the strings and choir. This is a tough question since most bands that made great records had longevity but that longevity also allowed for a clunker or 2. If The Who broke up after moon dies or R.E.M. after Berry left, you could say those bands did it ( I guess they did anyway since those bands did go on in different incarnations.) I'd be willing to do a B&P for anyone who wants it. I'm not sure they never had any intention of returning, just weren't sure what to do with it until they decided to give it to Spector. Wild Frank
Tom WaitsI'll second that. Every Wait's record is class. Also...how about Nick Cave? Certainly he has been putting out constantly great albums for as long as I can remember. Lambchop also spring to mind. Sparklehorse also fall into this category and will unfortunatly always be so. Still miss Mark Linkous. Very sad.
