Guest Speed Racer
The article is nice; the video looks like their teenage summer intern got ahold of iMovie for the first time.

SonicPDubs
Just my thoughts on the song itself I heard the Solid Sound versions more than a few times and have to say I really enjoy the album version. The bass line toward the beginning of the song is sick. And the part where Jeff sings "spit and swallowed opioids" is just really cool sounding. I saw someone say this song sounded overproduced. I think the sound production is excellent on this song as well as the whole album. They really used the studio to their advantage.
Turnips
I really like the song dare I say it reminds me of Death Cab for Cutie
Muzzle of Dan
I really liked the early acoustic versions of this song. The bass is what makes it so happening for me on the album though! and Nels' awesome guitar freaking out all over the place... of course.
lazy locomotives
I love this song and the video...both pure awesomeness. It was very cool hearing this song in it's embryonic state last spring when Jeff started rolling it out acoustically at solo shows and some tv appearances...I liked the song quite a bit at the time. At Solid Sound, I got to hear the live version and it was incredible (particularly all the stage lights flashing when Nels wailed on the signature lick)...then, last weekend, they streamed the album, so we finally got to hear the studio version which turns out to be beautifully nuanced, with so many cool touches (e.g., John's bass) which was tough to pick up on live. And now, we have...the video...wow x 2000.

For being such a genius on guitar, he's one of the nicest and most humble artists I've ever met (of the few I've actually met)

For being such a genius on guitar, he's one of the nicest and most humble artists I've ever met (of the few I've actually met) he gets a bit of a bad rep on here but i think he's turned more people on to the band than anyone. the first show i took my girl to opened with "Hell Is Chrome" and she turned to me and asked me "who is pink strap??" from then on we always call nels "pink strap". i dont think anyone else could do what he does

Queen Amaranthine
"He takes all his words from the (poems) that you don't read anyway." Dickinson is fantastic...and that's a very cool lyric writing process.
Excitable Boy
Some of my favorite lyrics on the album. At first, they seem like just random words and thoughts, but they flow together so perfectly. Reminds me of Jeff's lyrics for a lot Summerteeth songs.
Sweet Papa Crimbo
The Atlantic's got it up, plus an interview with Jeff talking about how he wrote the song using Emily Dickinson as inspiration. The last 30 bars of this song sound like something out of the Revolver era Beatles. Having listened to the stream around 4 times, I have a feeling this thing is going to be EPIC. Best opening and closing combo I have heard in a while.
smells like flowers
That main guitar lick sounds like it would be at home on the Pixies' "Doolittle." And love Glenn's drumming on this song. I told myself I was taking a break from all things Wilco (for at least 24 hours!) but here I am -- rolling in it like always!

CrisBcn
Sorry, just realized that it's already on another thread...By the way, l love the video for "Born Alone", one of my favourite songs for the moment from the new album...

They are very vocal. (is that a proper term for posting on an internet board?)It should be pretty obvious that Nels adds a dimension to the bands sound that is unequaled. kidsmoke
How you know when you've listened to the album a few too many times in a row and should listen to something else for awhile? When that Shepard tone at the end of Born Alone starts to give you a touch of vertigo.
