scubarex
I have been seeing the band live since 95...and I understand that Wilco has a deep and extensive catalog, but I miss the playfulness of when they use to do covers (not counting Woody Guthrie). When did they stop and why? Does anyone else miss the surprise of a beloved tune be dusted off and performed by Wilco?
tinnitus photography
last year they did two different covers in honor of Alex Chilton (Thank You Friends; In The Street). i guess you could also include the Nick Lowe cover, even though it also ended up as a b side? Turnips
they were doing Broken Arrow last year too no?
bleedorange
I have no desire to hear any covers.
lamradio
I have no desire to hear any covers. Me neither. Unless it was something by The Band.
i'm only sleeping
In my next life at leat, I envision myslef as hearing Wilco's cover of L&M's 'I've got a feeling'
uncool2pillow
I'd like to hear a cover. Heard the play Don't Fear the Reaper in Des Moines once. I'd look up the date on WilcoBase, but I'm fairly lazy.
Shug
I'd love to hear them play One Hundred Years From Now, but I doubt that will ever happen.
JAK2112
They covered Split Enz at Solid Sound this year
choo-choo-charlie
I enjoy the Being There-era live recordings of Wilco and the covers they tossed into the setlists. Now, I don't really need to hear any covers. Their catalog is so deep and full of great songs (and so many that are rarities) that I'd rather not get a cover where another great Wilco song could've been included. A heart I know by heart
I have seen them do 'I Shall Be Released' by Bob Dylan and 'Something In The Air' by Thunderclap Newman (which was great)...
aricandover
They covered some Nick Lowe tunes on the current tour.
jff
I don't think I ever got to see them play a cover song, other than Thank You Friends, which was a ncie tribute, but was predictable. I'd like to see them do a cover song I'm not expecting.
choo-choo-charlie
Is it considered a cover if Wilco plays one of Tweedy's Uncle Tupelo songs?
willywoody
Is it considered a cover if Wilco plays one of Tweedy's Uncle Tupelo songs? I guess kind of. They've done New Madrid tons of times. They did tons of covers at the Madison Square Gardens show NYE years ago. It's on Owl and Bear. They did a great Gut Feeling/Slap Your Mammy. I like the covers. Tweedy seems to do a fair bit of them solo, so I think he's a fan, too. I vote for some Rush, Spirit of the Radio or Tom Sawyer. I'm not even much of a Rush fan but I think Nels and Glenn could do it justice and Jeff could figure out a way to channel his inner Geddy Lee.
choo-choo-charlie
Don't get me wrong -- I love some Rush -- but I don't think Wilco should get anywhere near a Rush song.
ih8music
If the cover is of a song I like, then I'd love to hear their take on it. Don't get me wrong -- I love some Rush -- but I don't think Wilco should get anywhere near a Rush song. x100
JAK2112
I think Wilco could really nail a Television cover, Marquee Moon or Friction would be great to hear
smells like flowers
If the tagline on the youtube video is accurate, Uncle Tupelo's last live song was a cover of Gimme Three Steps. How fantastic is that?!
Sweet Papa Crimbo
No

How fantastic is that?! Yeah, this actually has never set well with me. That's the note they went out on? A Skynyrd tune? I suppose a cover made it so they didn't have to exit on either a Farrar or Tweedy song -- a neutral tune, what have you...

choo-choo-charlie
True. So if one were to discount that as the last song, then it'd be when Mike Heidorn came out to play drums on "Looking for a Way Out" that they officially said goodbye.

That's kind of why I thought of it, it's so out there that it might be good, or really bad, but it'd be interesting.
