The High Heat
Nice storyYes, sir! As was the first pitch strike by a triple-amputee Marine, accompanied by Zito, Romo, and the Say Hey Kid! http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=25449819&topic_id=37991280&c_id=mlb
gogo
I can't believe a pitcher is allowed to finish a game after being bonked like that. Fister did great, impressive nerve to stay out there and play it out, but I thought for sure he'd at least be whisked away for evaluation after he came out. I guess they've got some x-ray facility at the park, maybe they did something right there on site, but a hit like that really scares me.
Shakespeare In The Alley
i guess it got him in a good spot. he never went down, and he sounded sharp and alert when the coaches and trainers came out to the mound. im no expert, and hopefully nothing's suddenly wrong with him today, but he seemed ok. definitely a scary situation regardless, especially with what mccarthy went through earlier this year. the giants, man. ive never seen a team catch every possible break the way those guys have been lately. im not saying theyre playing anything less than great baseball (they certainly deserve all these wins), but geez. the shattered bats spinning the ball three different ways, line drives hitting the base and the pitchers head, bunts somehow staying fair. crazy stuff. did not expect this series to be 2-0 at this point, especially not 2-0 giants. ih8music
Developing a huge man crush on Sergio Romo the more I read about him... the interview during game 2 didn't hurt, either. Seems like a real fun guy to hang out with; really laid back and relaxed.

The High Heat
hunter pence appears to haven't slept in weeks. oh, and he's about to get a RING Pence is getting his ring, all right. Maybe he figures if he looks like Jayson Werth, he'll get paid like him. Miguel Cabrera, triple crown winner, probable MVP, strikes out looking to end the World Series. Life sure can be bittersweet. Winston Legthigh
Congrats to the Giants. I wish the Tigers could have given them more of a challenge. They played like the God Bless America sounded last night. Anyone else catch that? It was god-awful.
gogo
I generally watch baseball with some combination of my sisters (and one brother-in-law), my mom, my nieces, and one nephew. So I don't know if it's a gender-specific thing in a crowd of female fans, or if my family is just predisposed to sympathize with the underdog, but it's always a good sign for the Giants when the phrase most commonly heard during a game is "oh, this poor guy..." Whether it's a pitcher who's walked two in a row, a fielder who makes a costly error, a hitter who could drive in the tying run but instead strikes out looking, we can never be happy for our team without some little tinge of sadness for the other guys. And yeah, that God Bless America was a mess. I think it was a combination of misplaced mics (only harmony parts were being picked up), and that maybe they couldn't hear each other? Because even the parts that we could hear did not sound good.

Shakespeare In The Alley
I think the problem is that it's an awful songits a baseball tradition id love to see disappear completely. kinda feel the same way about the pre-game anthem, but thats going nowhere so w/e. anyway, didnt expect a world series sweep, and certainly not by the giants. they deserved it for sure, but you wonder how much the time between the alcs and the ws affected the tigers. team looked absolutely lifeless the whole series. a series with both teams firing on all cylinders would have been thrilling stuff, but oh well. overall these playoffs werent lacking crazy tense moments, so a one sided world series isnt too bad an end to the season the giants have a rock solid franchise going, so ive got no beef with them winning another title. props to guys like lincecum, romo and scutaro who stepped up big at all the right times. now for a few months of hot stove rumors

Lammycat
The WS never really even started.... MLB really needs to shorten the regular season. Why?
bleedorange
Why? Because it's too long.
Lammycat
Because it's too long.Too long for Strasburg, maybe. I don't know, maybe a week or 2 shorter would be nice.
The High Heat
MLB really needs to shorten the regular season. I once figured out a system where the season was 148 games with IIRC 3 full rounds (or maybe 1 five and 2 sevens) of playoffs. I might still have it written down somewhere. bleedorange
I think it would benefit baseball. Scale it back by three weeks and you have the season ending and playoffs beginning right as football is starting.
The High Heat
The only teams that will lose gate on a shorter season will the Yanks, Red Sox, Cubs (regardless of record) and playoff-bound teams. There's more money in post season anyway. I'd also like to see a 30 man roster in the first 2-3 weeks of the season, pushing back the minors opening and doing away with the expanded Sept. rosters. Or just have a 28 man travelling roster with a 25 man availability per game, meaning 3 guys per game would be ineligable to play today, but any of the them could play tomorrow - with a 4 or 5 day limit on being on reserve at a time. This could help out with bullpens and day-to-day injuries, and I'd also like to see the Sept. roster expansion end under this system. The players, of course, would receive credit for service time being on the 28.
